What you need to know is that after an incredibly unpredictable year, your persistent advocacy efforts have ensured that none of the core global anti-poverty accounts RESULTS advocates for were cut in the FY18 budget. In fact, some programs saw increases! Check out the blog to see more!
Congress is deciding right now what will happen in the year ahead and how global anti-poverty programs will be funded through the annual appropriations process. Now’s the time we make sure they know that we need leadership, not retreat, in the fight against global poverty.
On September 7th the Senate State and Foreign Operations (SFOPS) Appropriations committee passed the fiscal year 2018 SFOPS bill out of committee. It included some good news for our priority health programs.
At the end of July, we began to see the “RESULTS” of your First Hundred Days efforts and the many calls, letters, and face-to-face meetings urging members of Congress to increase funding for global health and education programs in fiscal year 2018. The months of appropriations advocacy and Congressional sign-on letters have led to a promising State and Foreign Operations (SFOPS) Appropriations bill that has already moved through the House subcommittee and full committee mark-up process.
