FY26 Appropriations: Tell Congress to fund the fight against global poverty

April 4, 2025

This article was originally published on April 4, 2025 and will be updated throughout our FY26 appropriations campaign. It was last updated on April 10.

As RESULTS advocates, our mission is to inspire Congress to take action to fight poverty. Every year, Congress goes through the appropriations process. This sets funding levels for specific accounts. It’s more important than ever before that Congress includes strong funding for foreign aid in the next fiscal year (FY26). This spring, we have a great opportunity to get members on the record in support of global health and development issues.

We can ensure global health and education programs are fully funded by asking Congress to raise their voices. Congressional “Dear Colleague” letters are a show of public support with their peers. We want as many members as possible to sign on in support. You can check if your members signed on last year here. Then, reach out to foreign policy staffers to ask them to sign onto the FY26 letters.

You can also ask members of Congress to submit personal requests to the SFOPS subcommittee of Appropriations. They must urge the subcommittee to prioritize funding for these critical anti-poverty programs. Learn more about each of our priority accounts in the FY26 leave-behind memos and member form cheat sheets here.

A chart showing that the FY25 enacted numbers were $1.65 billion for Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria; $394.5 million for USAID Tuberculosis; $915 million for USAID Maternal and Child Health, of which $300 million for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; $165 million for USAID Nutrition; and $922 million for USAID Basic Education, of which $121.6 million for the Global Partnership for Education. And RESULTS' FY26 requests are $2 billion for Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria; $1 billion for USAID Tuberculosis; $1.15 billion for USAID Maternal and Child Health, of which $340 million for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; and $1.15 billion for USAID Education, of which $200 million for the Global Partnership for Education.
