The consequences of early childhood malnutrition are devastating and permanent, but they are also entirely preventable. RESULTS works to secure smart, sustainable investments in nutrition and nutrition policy that help break the cycle of poverty.
This week the bipartisan Global Malnutrition Prevention and Treatment Act was introduced in the Senate. The legislation (which has a bipartisan companion bill in the House of Representatives) is a positive sign of continued American leadership in global food security and nutrition.
The first time I met with a congressional office, I was sitting in my car in the parking lot outside a busy coffee shop and feeling nervous. A few members of my RESULTS group and I were meeting virtually with our senator’s staff, and it was a little overwhelming not knowing what to expect.
“Even separated by this pandemic, when we had to take action apart, we were never acting alone,” said RESULTS Executive Director Joanne Carter in her welcome remarks to the 600 advocates gathered from all 50 states and 20 countries for the virtual RESULTS conference.
As RESULTS advocates, our mission is to inspire Congress to take meaningful actions to fight poverty. Annually – as Congress turns its focus to the “appropriations” process, we have a real opportunity to get members on the record in support of global health and development issues.
A crowd of hundreds of advocates was gathered virtually on Feb. 6, 2021 for the RESULTS First 100 Days Campaign Kickoff event to prepare to meet with their members of Congress in their first 100 days in office.
Our failure to ensure COVID-19 vaccines are available those in low-income countries is an embarrassment. It has also heightened the risk of dangerous variants emerging as COVID-19 spreads, unchecked, in unvaccinated parts of the world. It’s outrageous, so we must let congressional leaders and the Administration hear our outrage.
