This fall Senator Sinema has been in the national headlines almost daily as Congress debates the essential recovery package. Her office is getting inundated with calls from lobbyists and activists and journalists from every part of the country. So the first time I met with her staff, I was incredibly nervous, wondering how I was even qualified.

Congress is on the brink of passing a historic recovery package… but it may not include expansion in rental assistance.

Congress is in the midst of negotiating the size and scope of the recovery package. The historic bill may not include housing investments, which would be devastating for many struggling households who have been impacted by the growing housing affordability, eviction, and homelessness crises. Now is the time to take action, while there is a brief window of opportunity to tell Congress why including housing investments in the recovery package is critical.

Supreme Court ended the federal CDC eviction moratorium

The Supreme Court invalidated the CDC eviction moratorium on August 26, 2021 on the grounds that the federal agency exceeded its authority to impose a nationwide moratorium. Without this moratorium, millions of households are at risk of housing instability, evictions, homelessness, and COVID-19 infection. RESULTS’ advocacy to include long-term rental assistance through Housing Choice Vouchers in the recovery package would be critical to secure a long-term solution to the housing crisis and to help struggling renter households afford their homes in the long run.

Biden Administration proposes to reinstate the Discriminatory Effects Standard to address housing discrimination

The Biden Administration, through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, proposes to reinstate a rule that would help address the enduring legacy of racist housing policies and achieve housing justice for all. The rule creates a standard for determining whether a given housing policy or practice has an unjustified discriminatory effect in violation of the Fair Housing Act. RESULTS strongly supports this rule and has signed on to letters in support of HUD’s proposal to reinstate it.
