Congress returns. Let’s make our voices heard for a stronger future.
Congress is back on Capitol Hill this week. The coming days will be crucial. House leadership is fast-tracking a major reconciliation package, with key House committees—Agriculture, Energy and Commerce, and Ways & Means—set to draft their portions of the bill. These decisions will shape the future of vital programs like SNAP, Medicaid, the Child Tax Credit (CTC), and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
This is our moment to act. We must not act out of fear, but out of determination and hope. We have the power to influence what happens next. We know what works: protecting SNAP helps families put food on the table. Preserving Medicaid ensures access to essential health care. Expanding the CTC and EITC gives workers and parents the tools to lift themselves and their children out of poverty.
Now is the time to raise our voices for policies that reduce hardship and build opportunity. Reach out to your members of Congress. Urge them to reject any bill that deepens poverty. Tell them:
- No cuts to SNAP
- No cuts to Medicaid
- Expand the CTC and EITC

Strong FY26 appropriations is how we start to revive foreign aid.
It is no secret that the last few months have been tragic for U.S. foreign aid. Programs that have saved lives, expanded opportunity, and created international good will are now in shambles. The Trump Administration has undone decades of progress in a matter of weeks.
But that is not the end of the story. We’ve lost a lot. But there is still time to repair the damage. And one of the key opportunities to do so is happening right now. That’s the fiscal year 2026 appropriations process.
Congress can push back against the Administration’s actions. They can reassert their constitutional control over how our taxpayer money is spent. They must allocate needed funding for tuberculosis prevention and treatment as well as maternal and child health. They must also allocate needed funding for global education and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. They can right the ship.
Congressional appropriators are taking requests from lawmakers right now. Confirm that your congressional foreign policy aides have submitted our appropriations requests. Ask Congress sign the global Dear Colleague letters if they have not. Appropriations deadlines are approaching fast. Strong investments in these priorities in FY26 are a vital step in getting us back on track.
In last week’s Update, we mentioned that President Trump may make “rescission requests” to Congress. These would cancel unspent FY25 funding for foreign aid programs we support. We are awaiting those requests and will keep you apprised. Right now, the best way to counter any rescissions is following through on FY26 appropriations.
TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Register today for Saturday’s National Webinar. Protect our U.S. poverty priorities during the budget reconciliation process. And support FY26 appropriations.
