Election engagement continues with Rep. Derek Kilmer on this Saturday’s National Webinar

The September 2024 RESULTS National Webinar is this weekend! We are thrilled to welcome Rep. Derek Kilmer (D-WA-6) as our guest speaker. As we continue our election engagement efforts, Congressman Kilmer will share his thoughts on how best to get our policy priorities in front of lawmakers and candidates. We look forward to hearing his insights. On this webinar, we’ll also kick off a new media campaign and highlight new opportunities to make poverty an election issue with grassroots-driven media. Come along and join your fellow advocates for what’s sure to be an invigorating conversation.

As you prepare to hear from Rep. Kilmer, please continue your work on our Election Engagement campaign. Use our online tools to help make poverty an election issue, including our Election Engagement guide, Lobbying How-To’s, Media How-To’s, and National Webinar recordings.

TAKE ACTION: Register for the RESULTS National Webinar this Saturday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Once registered, registrants will receive their confirmation and Zoom link a day or two before the webinar (be sure to check your junk mail if you don’t see it). You can find the slides and recordings from all our webinars on our National Webinars page. Then use the resources on our Community of Change page (under “Make Elections about Poverty”) to take action now and get candidates and incumbents on the record on our issues. If you have questions, please contact RESULTS staff.

Global nutrition letter extended; Gavi resolutions still open for co-sponsors

In advance of this month’s United Nations General Assembly, we are gathering signatures on a global nutrition House Dear Colleague letter. The letter calls on the U.S. to make a bold, early pledge to end malnutrition in advance of the Nutrition for Growth Summit in Paris in March 2025. We learned last week that the deadline for signers has been extended to Thursday, September 12. The U.N. gathering starts next week, so we don’t want to delay; let’s take full advantage of this extra time to gather signatures. We can jump to 50 signatures (and counting) in no time if we act.

Additionally, we are continuing to gather co-sponsors for resolutions supporting Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. This is in advance of the full pledging conference that is also expected to be in 2025. At a recent pre-pledging conference, the Biden Administration pledged at least $1.58 billion for Gavi over five years. We need more co-sponsors to the House and Senate Gavi resolutions to help us see this through.

TAKE ACTION: Urge your representatives to sign the House Dear Colleague letter of support for the Nutrition for Growth Summit. We need as many signatures as possible before the new close date of September 12. Also, please ask your legislators to co-sponsor the Gavi resolutions (S.Res.684 and H.Res.1286). Use our online action today to make your Gavi resolution requests.
