As our community grows, so does our strength: RESULTS Summer 2024 outreach stories (Part II of II)
At RESULTS, we know the power of relationships. They are key to influencing lawmakers and building the movement to end poverty. That’s why RESULTS advocates stepped up this summer. We took on our most successful outreach moment since COVID, connecting advocates across 22 states to take more than 450 actions. These volunteers made countless calls and wrote postcards and letters to their members of Congress. While there is strength in numbers, every number represents a person — a story.
This is the second and final installment in our blog series spotlighting stories from our summer volunteer outreach. Each of these stories is a window into the power of community. As I wrote in the first installment of this series, community is the solution to the overwhelming stress we often feel in response to the political climate. With every new connection, there is healing. With every new action, there is impact. I hope you enjoy these stories of advocates growing in their power to fight poverty.

“There’s something about interpersonal relationship building that makes every community stronger. And it doesn’t have to be a big thing. Even a group of 3 to 5 will still be meaningful to get together in person. You’ll strengthen your sense of commitment to your values, the issues, and each other.”
Wilma Solomon, New Jersey
“If you’re interested enough in this work, you know it’s not easy. There are ups and downs. Just like there are ups and downs in our personal lives. By working together, we experience those ups and downs together. But the bond is already there. We’re connected by the fact that we’ve chosen to put our time into this.”
