First 100 Days: Request meetings with senators
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has met with their members of Congress to advocate for our U.S. and global poverty campaign priorities. These meetings are absolutely vital in defending against the reckless attacks on foreign aid, Medicaid, and SNAP. The most effective way to safeguard these critical programs is by meeting with members of Congress and their staff now, pressing them to champion policies that fight poverty. In 2025, you’ve reported an impressive 68 lobby meetings. Congratulations and thank you for your commitment! This includes 24 unique Senate offices, bringing us one-quarter of the way toward our First 100 Days goal of meeting with all 100 Senate offices by the end of April. The time to act is now. If you haven’t yet requested a Senate meeting, please send your request this week. If you have, be sure to follow up regularly until you secure a meeting. If you need assistance in making requests, don’t hesitate to reach out to RESULTS staff. We’re here to support you.
Use media to amplify your voice on critical issues
Yesterday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that, after a “review” of all foreign programs, the State Department has cut 83 percent of them. It is unclear which programs are affected (such as this one). At the same time, Republicans in Congress hope to avoid a government shutdown this week by passing a six-month continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government funded through September 30. The bill includes some cuts to important programs but mostly keeps spending levels the same as 2024. However, there are concerns the bill does not clearly explain where the money will go, which could give the Trump Administration more power to cut federal programs and jobs. Finally, House and Senate GOP leaders are quietly working on a new budget plan that could include big cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential programs. All this is a reminder of how important it is to stay active. In addition to your lobby meetings, it’s important to also keep the pressure on through the media. RESULTS volunteers have already published over 100 media pieces this year on our U.S. and global poverty priorities. While waiting for your next lobby meeting, please submit a letter to the editor asking Congress to act. The RESULTS Action Center has templates that make it easy to send a letter today!
