RESULTS Weekly Update June 10, 2025
Quote of the Week
“The president has stated that humanitarian assistance and controlling infectious diseases such as tuberculosis are legitimate purposes for foreign aid, yet he proposes cutting global health spending.”
– RESULTS Chicago volunteer Oscar Lanzi in a June 7 letter to the editor in the Chicago Tribune

Tell Senate aides to protect SNAP, Medicaid, and the CTC in the reconciliation bill
Senate Republicans are working to meet their July 4 reconciliation deadline. This week, the Senate Agriculture Committee (SNAP) is expected to release their portion of bill. The Senate Finance Committee (Medicaid, Child Tax Credit and other taxes) could release theirs later this week or over the weekend.
Senate leaders are using stealth and speed to move this bill because your advocacy is working. Congressional leaders know that when people get wind of what’s in the bill, they oppose it. They want to move fast before anyone catches on. That’s why we have to keep the pressure on. Before any vote, we must ensure every senator, regardless of party, understands why their constituents oppose this bill. And that their constituents are watching closely.
Contact key congressional aides to tell their bosses what you want:
- SNAP: Tell agriculture aides you oppose any cuts, harmful work reporting requirements, or cost-shifting to states. This bill should reduce hunger, not make it worse.
- Medicaid: Tell health aides to oppose new work requirements, cuts to federal funds, and mandates that deny health coverage to millions. Taking away healthcare will not make us healthier.
- Child Tax Credit/Earned Income Tax Credit: Tell tax aides to that this bill must expand the full CTC to the 17 million children in low-wage families denied the full credit. And don’t cut or restrict access to the EITC.
Coordinate with your group to divide up the contacts. Act quickly. See our Actions and Allies page for lobby materials, laser talks, and other resources to help you. And please contact RESULTS staff for support. Also, see updates on the reconciliation bill on our blog.
Stop rescissions and support the Global Fund
Last week, the Trump Administration finally shared its rescissions plan. If passed, it would mean a clawback of $8.3 billion in foreign assistance support. Freezing and revoking aid literally means lives hang in the balance.
You have already been hard at work protecting this aid, via your work on appropriations requests and “Dear Colleague” letters in Congress. In fact, you helped achieve more than 100 signers on every House letter and a strong showing in the Senate. Please thank them.
For now, the strong message is “NO on rescissions.” Our blog has a thorough explainer of what rescissions are and what’s at stake. Reach out to Congress today and stay tuned for updates.
We also want to ramp up our support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. We have been supporters of this crucial life-saving public-private partnership since its inception over two decades ago. You have expertly advocated for a $2 billion investment in the Global Fund for FY26 through your appropriations work. Now we need the U.S. to follow through with our traditional one-third pledge ($1 from the U.S. for every $2 coming from other donors).
On this past weekend’s National Webinar guest speaker Thokozile Phiri said “we need the Global Fund now more than ever.” Please use our full array of support materials on our 2025 Action and Allies page to tell your members of Congress to fully support the Global Fund with a one-third pledge.
“Action Matters” this summer!
Last weekend, we launched our “Action Matters” campaign during the June National Webinar. This is an exciting step forward in our 2025 Action and Allies work to end poverty. This summer, we are doubling down on our core values and amplifying the powerful message that the lives of people in poverty matter, and we are here to listen and act. The Action Matters campaign is about expanding our advocacy, together.
Every action we take strengthens our collective power, and our momentum grows as we act in our communities. By standing up for what’s right and inviting others to join us, we increase our impact and amplify our voices.
The best part? You get to choose your path. RESULTS will keep you updated on both U.S. and global poverty campaigns, but you decide how you want to take action. Our “Action Matters” summer guide offers a wealth of ideas, with suggestions for actions you can take and ways to maximize your impact. Choose something that taps into your strengths or challenges you in new ways. It’s up to you. We encourage you to take at least one action each month through August. And if you’ve got an idea of your own, go for it. RESULTS staff is here to support you every step of the way.
RESULTS volunteers have done extraordinary things this year in the face of great adversity. Let’s show ourselves and our community this summer just how much our actions matter.
TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Tell senators to reject cuts to health care and food assistance; tell Congress “NO” on foreign aid rescissions and advocate for the Global Fund, and engage in summer outreach through our “Action Matters” campaign.
