The first time I met with a congressional office, I was sitting in my car in the parking lot outside a busy coffee shop and feeling nervous. A few members of my RESULTS group and I were meeting virtually with our senator’s staff, and it was a little overwhelming not knowing what to expect.
With a new Congress and Administration in Washington this year, RESULTS wasn’t waiting around. As policymakers started their first 100 days in office, our movement of advocates set out to meet with members of Congress across the country and across the political spectrum.
Congressional leadership is working to pass another COVID-19 relief package through a special legislative process called budget reconciliation. This is a step in the right direction, but the amounts in the proposed budget reconciliation do not go far enough. More advocacy is needed to ensure that the U.S. provides COVID-19 relief on a scale that meets the tremendous need that exists in the U.S. and in partner countries.
