RESULTS Weekly Update July 8, 2025

July 8, 2025

Quote of the Week

“We can also call or email those who represent us and ask them to keep working to turn around these laws and executive actions that threaten health care and food programs in our country as well as life-saving programs globally.”

– RESULTS Snohomish advocate Willie Dickerson in a July 2 letter to the editor in the Snohomish County Tribune

Action Matters!

We’re in the heart of summer, and we’re not letting up on our Action Matters campaign. Each week, we’ll spotlight powerful ways to fuel our U.S. and global poverty advocacy. Use these ideas as motivation. Try something again. Or try something new. And enroll others to take action as well. Because each action matters.

Write to fight back—let Congress know how you feel about the reconciliation bill

Last week, Congress passed one of the most harmful bills in recent memory. Let’s be clear: this legislation will make life harder for millions. Medicaid will shrink, SNAP benefits will be cut, student loans will become more costly, and immigrant communities will face increased stigma. Working families will struggle even more, and inequality will deepen.

At RESULTS, like many of you, we’re angry. We’re heartbroken. But we’re not giving up. This fight isn’t over. There will be opportunities to push back, lessen the damage, and even reverse some of these harmful policies. But right now, let’s let Congress know just how we feel. Here’s what you can do:

  • Generate media. Write letters to the editor. Thank members of Congress who stood with us, call out those who didn’t, and help educate your community about the bill’s real impact.
  • Join our Media Action Webinar on July 22. We’re organizing a national push to flood local media with a clear message: anti-poverty programs are lifelines, and cutting them is unacceptable. Whether you’re new or experienced, your voice matters. Register now.

The public opposed this bill. Let’s make sure Congress knows that opposition is only growing.

Action needed on rescissions, Gavi, and the Global Fund

Oppose the rescissions package. The U.S. agency mandated to oversee foreign assistance, USAID, shuttered June 30. A new report says that decision will cost 14 million people—including 4.5 million children—their lives by 2030. It is essential we protect funds that are still there and reverse other that have been unlawfully impounded. We can start by defeating the recissions bill in the Senate. This presidential request would rescind over $8 billion in foreign aid allocated by Congress last March. Call your senators today at (202) 224-3121 and tell them to vote NO on rescissions. Please don’t wait! The Senate will vote no later than July 18.

Support Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Twenty-five years ago, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance was created. This global partnership increases lower-income countries’ access to vaccination. In that 25 years, more than 1 billion children have been vaccinated. This number is astonishing. Next up for Gavi is work reaching children who haven’t been able to access vaccines, new malaria vaccines, and even support of vaccine manufacturing in Africa. The administration doesn’t want to step up to a continuing commitment to this life-saving work. But Congress thankfully has the power of the purse. The U.S., through a leadership contribution, could help Gavi reach its $11.9 billion target. This amount could transform into over 8 million lives saved through 2030. Use and share our action alert today. Make sure Congress knows U.S. leadership contribution to Gavi must continue.

Protect the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Did you know that tuberculosis (TB) is the world’s leading infectious disease killer? In 2023, almost 11 million fell ill with TB and 1.3 million died from it. We know what to do to tackle this persistent disease of poverty. One move is to continue supporting the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The Global Fund has helped save 65 million lives around the world. Soon House leaders will announce their proposed Global Fund funding for fiscal year 2026. The U.S. must continue its tradition of committing $1 to the Global Fund for every $2 pledged by other donors. Contact your members of Congress now. Request that they support the Global Fund in FY26 by maintaining the 1:2 match. The will in Congress is there. Use our online action alert to remind them. And please share the alert with others.

TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Register for the July 22 media push kick-off in response to the reconciliation bill; champion Gavi and the Global Fund; and share the 2026 RESULTS Fellowship application. And remember to help us meet our $50,000 donation match. Help us meet the match by giving or inviting others to donate today.
