RESULTS Weekly Update November 18, 2025

November 18, 2025

Quote of the Week

“I’m relieved SNAP will be funded again. But the precedent is horrific: creating pain for those who can least afford it for political gain. This is unacceptable.”

– RESULTS New Hampshire volunteer Lucinda Winslow in a November 14 letter to the editor in the Concord Monitor

Use media to tell Congress to finish the budget the right way

With the government shutdown finally over, Congress must get back to work. And they have a lot to get done. The current continuing resolution runs through the end of January. If Congress does not complete its FY26 appropriations bills — essentially its FY26 budget — we’ll face yet another shutdown. (For an excellent shutdown summary, see this blog post from RESULTS’ Michael Santos; please see our press release as well). No one wants that again, so they need to finish their budget, and quick.

For RESULTS, we insist on these three items the final FY26 budget:

  • Fund global health and education programs at the House-passed levels or higher
  • Fully fund the Housing Choice Voucher program
  • Include specific safeguards to ensure that funding is spent as directed by Congress

Congress will be in and out of Washington, DC, the next few weeks because of the holidays. That makes your media work essential right now. That steady drumbeat of public pressure is vital in ensuring that they not only get a budget done, but a budget that aligns our anti-poverty priorities. We started our ”600 Voices” media campaign for this reason.

When lawmakers read local media telling them to take action, they pay attention. They not only know that these messages are directed at them; they also know that countless people they represent are reading them. And maybe being inspired to take action themselves. Your next letter could prompt an email or a phone call — or another letter to the editor. Your advocacy puts the act in impact.

And we are edging closer to our “600 Voices” goal. As of today, RESULTS volunteers have gotten 491 media pieces in 2025. We can get to 600 by the end of December if we keep submitting. Help push Congress to finish the FY26 budget the right way. On our website, we have media templates on the FY26 budget, the Global Fund, and protecting democracy through the budget process. Those are great topics for media right now. But if you want to write about something else — SNAP or health care or vaccines — please do. All of it helps. If you need a hook for your next letter, use our media hooks tracker. Finally, reach out to Jos Linn for any media questions. Thank you and good luck!
