Quote of the Week

“You can’t gut the funding without gutting the services.”

 – RESULTS Dallas volunteer Ashleigh Frank in a May 16 letter to the editor in the Dallas Morning News

(Is this newsletter too long; didn’t read (TL;DR) the whole thing? Scroll to the bottom for the most important points or the “TL;DR”)

Keep calling on representatives to vote NO on the reconciliation bill.

The House is still trying to pass its disastrous reconciliation bill this week. And no one in Washington knows whether that will happen. That is a testament to your advocacy and to how unpopular this bill is. The American do not want to see 14 million people lose their health care from Medicaid and Affordable Care Act cuts. They do not want to see food assistance cut for 11 million people through burdensome new work reporting requirements. They do not want to see 17 million children excluded from the full Child Tax Credit while wealthy families get more. And now, after the Congressional Budget Office released its fiscal analysis of the bill, they don’t want another $3 trillion added to the national debt fueled by reckless tax cuts for the rich.

We don’t know what the House will do this week. But we do know what we can do–tell them to vote NO on this bad bill. Please call your representative TODAY at (202) 224-3121 and say:

My name is ______________, and I’m a constituent from ______________. I’m outraged that House leaders are pushing a reckless reconciliation bill that guts Medicaid, SNAP, and the Child Tax Credit, just to fund massive tax breaks for the wealthy. This bill will push millions into poverty, worsen inequality, and increase the national debt. I urge Rep. ______________ to take a public stand and vote NO!

Keep calling every day until there is a vote. And ask everyone you know to call too!

Call aides TODAY about signing Senate “Dear Colleague” Letters.

We have an urgent action for senators in the fight against global poverty. (With all the activity in the House this week, we don’t want senators to feel ignored!) We need them to sign the four Senate “Dear Colleague” letters TODAY. Senator signatures send a strong message to appropriators to prioritize global health and education issues in the FY26 budget. The FY26 appropriations process is our best chance to repair the damage to U.S. foreign aid work.

As of this afternoon, these letters are still taking signatures but could close at any moment:

Please contact your Senate foreign policy aides TODAY and ask their boss to sign on ASAP, if they have not signed already. Contact them directly or use our online email alert.

Vote in the Grassroots Board election.

The election is underway! Vote for the open Grassroots Director seat on the RESULTS/RESULTS Education Fund Board. Voting is open until June 22. The four active volunteers who serve on the Board represent volunteer voices in RESULTS governance. The successful candidate will join Aaron Carrillo, Kasapo Chibwe, and Allison Gallaher for a three-year term on the Board.

We hope you’ll take some time to get to know our three candidates. Then vote for the person you’d like to represent you. The RESULTS Board election blog post has information on the candidates and more voting details. You can also watch the candidates’ closing statements from last week’s candidate forum.

TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Call for a “no” vote on budget reconciliation, get final “Dear Colleague” letter signatures, and vote in the Grassroots Board election.
