RESULTS Weekly Update June 3, 2025

June 3, 2025

Quote of the Week

“We didn’t vote for tuberculosis to spread unchecked and AIDS to kill more people. We did not vote to let food and medicine rot so babies would die. Nobody voted to give a mandate to the cruelty and incompetence we are seeing in this ‘big, beautiful bill.’”

 – RESULTS Riverside/San Bernadino volunteer Lynne Patalano in a June 2 letter to the editor in the New York Times

Join Saturday’s National Webinar with Thokozile Phiri of FACT

Join us for the RESULTS National Webinar this weekend as we transition to our summer work in the fight to end poverty. On the global side, we turn our attention to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria. For two decades, the Global Fund has supported initiatives around the world that have saved millions of lives. On Saturday’s webinar, we welcome guest speaker Thokozile Phiri, Executive Director, Facilitators of Community Transformation. Ms. Phiri will share her insights on why the U.S. must step up with a strong Global Fund replenishment this year.

On our U.S. side, we will update you on the latest on the proposed cuts to critical anti-poverty programs and how you can help stop them. We overview our summer “Action Matters” campaign and how it will advance our global and U.S. priorities. Finally, you’ll hear from the candidates running to represent you on the RESULTS Board. It’s a full agenda and one you won’t want to miss. Please join us!

The webinar is this Saturday, June 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Register today.

Tell the Senate to reject cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and the CTC

Now that the House has passed H.R. 1, the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the spotlight shifts to the Senate. Senate leaders want a final bill on the President’s desk by July 4. It’s an ambitious timeline, but one we must take seriously. The good news is that some Republican senators are voicing concerns about the House bill and are pushing for changes. Some could improve the bill, others could make it worse.

As currently written, this bill threatens to unleash deep economic hardship through cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and the Child Tax Credit. Harsh new work reporting requirements, cost-shifting to states, restrictions on eligibility are a few of the policies that would push millions into poverty (see new CBPP state fact sheets). But we can stop it–if we act now.

Make an action plan for the next five weeks. The goal is to push senators to reject cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, and expand the CTC to millions of low-wage families. Plan to take at least one significant action each week between now and July 4. Here is what your plan might look like:

Make a plan that will be loud, visible, and sustained. This is our window. Let’s use it.

You rocked it on the Dear Colleague letters

This week, President Trump’s plans to ask Congress to rescind $9 billion in foreign aid funding. If passed, it would rubber stamp the Administration’s illegal withholding of funds over the last few months.

That is why your work on the FY26 House and Senate global Dear Colleague letters is so important. Securing signatures to these letters is not just a numbers game. It’s a critical step in securing the resources to combat global poverty.

Despite leaders in Washington being openly hostile to foreign aid, you remained undaunted. You helped rally over 100 signers on every House letter, as well as historically comparable numbers in the Senate. This is a tremendous success. Thank you for your relentless dedication and commitment.

Please thank your members of Congress who signed a Dear Colleague letter (send a note to their foreign policy aide). Your gratitude can go a long way in keeping this momentum going.

In case you missed it…
