RESULTS Weekly Update February 25, 2025

February 25, 2025

Quote of the Week

“Call your members of Congress to fight back against the destruction of USAID and against this stop-order which has undermined their appropriations power, makes us less safe, and does irreparable harm to the U.S. standing in the world.”

– RESULTS Coastal CT volunteer Nancy Gardiner in a February 12 letter to the editor in the Stamford Advocate

Call your representatives today – tell them to reject the House budget resolution!

The House of Representatives will likely vote later today on their new budget resolution. The resolution calls for deep cuts to core anti-poverty programs to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. These programs include SNAP and Medicaid. The House must reject this dangerous budget plan. Please call (202) 224-3121 and ask for your representative. Leave this message with the receptionist:

I urge Rep. ______________ to vote NO on the House budget resolution coming up for a vote soon. It is ridiculous that Congress wants to take health care and food assistance from millions of Americans to pay for tax cuts for the rich. Congress must put families over billionaires by rejecting SNAP and Medicaid cuts. Please tell Rep. ______________ to vote NO on the budget resolution!

Join Saturday’s National Webinar with Maureen Murenga

Join us for the RESULTS National Webinar this Saturday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m. ET. We are pleased to welcome Maurine Murenga of the Global Fund Advocates Network. Maureen will discuss the intersection between advocacy for the end of tuberculosis and gender equity, including how gender plays a role in access to care and treatment. It’s important to look at these issues all within the context of the freezing of foreign aid. It’s also important to consider the consequences of the USAID stop-work order and the need to communicate why the U.S. plays a key role in foreign assistance. We’ll also update you on the status of our campaigns. And we’ll highlight recent volunteer successes during our First 100 Days lobby push volunteers have had in lobby meetings. Please join us for this inspiring webinar. Register today!

First 100 Days – it is up to us to right this ship

The crisis created by the Trump Administration’s stop-work order on foreign aid continues unabated. Despite the federal court stepping in, all is not back to normal. Programs continue to be shuttered and USAID personnel continue to be laid off. Congress must fix this problem. It is not good enough to wait and see or claim you have no power. Lawmakers carry tremendous influence and they need to use it. Your lobby meetings as part of our Actions and Allies campaign send that message. Our voices are vital to getting us back on course in restoring foreign aid, protecting SNAP and Medicaid, expanding the Child Tax Credit, and replenishing the Global Fund. Please request your lobby meetings with senators and representatives now. There is no time to waste. Once you secure a meeting, please contact Katie Fleischer to set up a lobby prep call. And while you wait for your lobby meeting dates, use our Action Center to take action on our priorities today!
