Build the Buy-in: Prepare for the January rush with media now

With Congress effectively on recess (the Senate will leave this week), the rest of December will be pretty quiet. January will be a different story. Members of Congress will return on January 8 with just over a week to avoid a government shutdown on January 19. That’s when Congress needs to pass new spending bills for FY2024. It is also the unofficial deadline to pass legislation on the Child Tax Credit, global tuberculosis, and global education. If Congress is going to move on any of these critical issues, it will be then. Let’s use these last few weeks of the year to push Congress to act on poverty in January.

TAKE ACTION: Between holiday parties, gift giving, and relaxing at the end of the year, please take a few minutes to submit new letters to the editor. Write about significantly reducing child poverty, promoting global health, and expanding access to global education. Keep these issues in front lawmakers during the holiday recess. Also, we are just 37 media pieces away from hitting our Build the Buy-in goal of 250 media pieces by December 31. And we have only 10 states left to get published in. Let’s start 2024 off right by finishing 2023 strong!

If you need help with your media advocacy, please join our rescheduled Media Office Hour tomorrow, December 20 at 2:00pm ET. RESULTS staff will be on the whole hour to answer your media questions. Join at https://results.zoom.us/j/93668005494 or (312) 626-6799, meeting ID 936 6800 5494.

Gifts to RESULTS matched through December 31!

Give to RESULTS this month and help us maximize our match! A small group of RESULTS donors will match every dollar you donate to RESULTS, up to $100,000! By matching gifts, these generous donors hope to inspire you to give, too! With upcoming elections and deep partisan divides, 2024 is a critical year for our country and our work to end poverty. We need donor support to expand our movement and engage more people in our democracy. A gift from you today of any size will help us raise our voices powerfully in 2024. And with the match, your donation will have double the impact as we push Congress to slash poverty in the U.S. and globally. Will you support our work to end poverty and strengthen our democracy before the match ends on December 31?
