Weekly Update | Week of May 14, 2018

Quote of the Week

" … What happened next permanently changed the way I thought of myself and the world."

– Remembering Shirley Williams and others integral to the beginnings of RESULTS. Read this latest piece by our founder, Sam Daley-Harris, as we honor so many who are no longer with us but on whose legacy we stand and keep building in new and innovative ways.

Quick Action

Take Action: Register by May 15 for the 2018 International Conference to Grab the Earlybird Rate

Just a Few Hours Left: International Conference Earlybird Rate Ends May 15

The 2018 RESULTS International Conference (IC), to be held July 14-17, is one of the last big moments to make real progress on our issues before Congress leaves for the August recess and turns its attention to November elections. Before they are distracted, they must take action to protect FY19 global health and education programs, including moving the Reach Every Mother and Child Act toward passage. We'll get this done by being in Washington in force. Make sure your group, your state, your district are represented!

Give people the opportunity to become the powerful change makers they want to become by inviting widely and often. If current advocates are struggling to afford the trip to DC, encourage them to get help through the IC Gap Fund for Global Advocates. (Time is running out to apply – don't delay!) Our advocates are our most important asset and we believe in investing in you.

Closing Today: RESULTS Grassroots Board Member Nominations

Would you like to take a leadership role in governing our RESULTS community? Do you know someone who would be a strong voice for guiding our national organization?

We are now accepting nominations for the RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund Grassroots Board Member election, which will be held this summer. One Grassroots Board Member will be elected by RESULTS volunteers. You can nominate someone who you think would be a strong voice representing RESULTS volunteers OR you can nominate yourself. Nominations will close on Monday, May 14.

For more on qualifications and the nominations process, read more on our website.

May is for Kids and Moms: Reach Act Advocacy and Friends & Family Fundraising Campaign

1. Creating Momentum to Pass the Reach Act. The Reach Every Mother and Child Act (H.R.4022, S.1730) will make U.S. efforts on maternal and child health the best they can be through coordination, efficiency, and bold goals. It's time to pass this legislation. Get senators and representatives to cosponsor the Reach Act. If they are already cosponsors, move them up the Champion Scale by asking them to advocate for and lead on the issue. Use the Reach Act #LettersGetLOUD Outreach Guide and Action Sheet to mobilize your community. Gather letters for in-district and in-state meetings. You can also bring letters to the International Conference for hand-delivery!

2. Raising Funds to Support RESULTS' Advocacy for Moms. The RESULTS Spring Friends and Family Fundraising Campaign is going on now! Join the fun and help us reach the $5,000 match. Check out the campaign online. Questions? Mea Geizhals, Grassroots Fundraising Manager, stands ready to help.

New Advocate Welcome Series

RESULTS has a brand new process for welcoming, training, and connecting new advocates to our movement! This will replace our current Introductory Call process. We believe this will give new advocates the chance to get to know RESULTS at their own pace. It also creates a new opportunity for all new advocates to attend a live training webinar with RESULTS staff to get a primer on our issues, our advocacy model, and start learning advocacy skills so they can hit the ground running when they come to their next RESULTS meeting. We hope this will be a resource to your group as you recruit new advocates locally! It should not replace your own conversations, relationship building, and welcoming at the local level.

To enroll in the Welcome Series, advocates can sign up online. At the end of the series, they will be invited to sign up for an orientation (dates and times are listed on our online calendar. Questions? Contact Global Grassroots Expansion Manager Amanda Beals.
