Looking ahead: What’s next for RESULTS

This pandemic is exposing just how far the world has to go toward protecting the rights and needs of everyone – and just what an important role advocates like you can play.

Here on the RESULTS staff, we’re always so deeply inspired by your commitment, but especially right now. Many of you are already taking action to shape the policy response to the pandemic, and there’s a lot of work ahead to make sure people experiencing poverty aren’t left out.

We also know many people will need space and time to focus on their families and communities: please do what you need to do to keep yourselves and your families safe. And when you are ready to take action, we are here to support you.

For those of you with questions about our work in the context of this crisis, we wanted to share some of our plans, even as things continue to change.

As a movement, we can play an important role in the response to the crisis, providing people a welcoming, deeply committed community where they can make a difference, despite physical distance. And together we’re committed to helping shape the country’s response to the pandemic: prioritizing vulnerable communities in our country and world, protecting critical anti-poverty programs, and shaping future priorities.

Just as we all figure out new ways of maintaining our personal relationships and social lives, we’re finding new ways to build and strengthen our relationships with Congress, and new ways to join together as a community of advocates.

Advocacy in a time of physical distancing doesn’t mean one-click, anonymous advocacy. We may not be able to meet with each other or Congress in-person, but this spring we’ll be supporting deep, online advocacy and community, and giving new advocates a chance to be in action.

We don’t know what the future holds – but we know your voice will be essential to shaping it. And so we’re committed to deep, sustained advocacy to shape the emergency response and the lasting response to this pandemic, elevating the programs and policies we know are needed to bring an end to poverty.

Looking even further ahead, we’re planning a coast-to-coast organizing push in the days right after the election in November. We’ll be recruiting new advocates in communities across the country, launching the latest class of young leaders in the RESULTS Fellowship, and gearing up as a community for our biggest-ever coordinated advocacy campaign for early 2021.

When Congress returns to Washington in January, we’ll be ready to be the first ones in their door (or their Zoom). In the first 100 days of the next Congress, we are launching our own first 100 days campaign to set the agenda. Joined with new advocates, we’ll support every RESULTS group to meet with their members of Congress – across the country and across the political spectrum.

As the pandemic unfolds around us, people’s basic needs and human rights are in even more danger. Your voice is more important than ever in making sure we have a country and world that works for everyone.
