Leading with Action: #LettersGetLOUD Campaign Turns its Sights to World TB DayThe #LettersGetLOUD campaign is designed to help you enhance the impact of your meetings with members of Congress while inspiring others and growing our movement in 2018. Advocates are organizing their communities to write letters to members of Congress about ending poverty. These letters are being hand-delivered while meeting with our members of Congress. Through the campaign, we'll also hear your voices through the reading of these letters via videos shared on social media. (Check out the hashtag #LettersGetLOUD on Twitter.) Go to our #LettersGetLOUD page for complete support materials, including a campaign guide, tips on reaching out to your community, materials you can order to enhance your outreach/letter-writing meeting, and other helps. #LettersGetLOUD for World TB Day on March 24. We have weighed in on the appropriations process in the House; next is the Senate. Now is the perfect time to begin making sure your Senators hear from you the same way. We are in the process of getting all the information on the timing of the Senate appropriations process, but that doesn't mean you have to wait to weigh in. Utilize the current appropriations materials and start letting your Senators know your thoughts on funding the priorities of global education and health – including the the eradication of tuberculosis! Gather your community to write letters. Record a reading of a letter and post on social media, utilizing the hashtag #LettersGetLOUD. Then take these letters with you as you meet with your senators. (Remember: the next recess for both chambers of Congress begins March 26, which means your legislators will soon be in their home districts and states!) P.S. For extra credit, why not submit a letter to the editor in advance of World TB Day and invite others to do the same with this shareable link? FY19 Appropriations Requests: Pivoting to the SenateWe have two key ways we weigh in on the budget/appropriations process every year: funding level requests and sign-on letters which emphasize the importance of a spending area/issue. As advocates, we take our appropriations requests related to health, education, and economic opportunity every year to our members of Congress and ask them to weigh in specifically on the process. Additionally, we use the power of the sign-on letter. A sign-on letter (also called a “Dear Colleague” letter) is like a petition in Congress. Sign-on letters are circulated by champions in Congress to ask other members to join them in showing their support for an issue. This appropriations season, urge Congress to speak up on issues that build the foundation to end poverty. We are completing our appropriations requests and sign-on letters process for the House, and our advocates have done wonderful work. Final information is coming in as we speak on who signed our four appropriations "Dear Colleague" letters, and you can find the most up-to-date information on our website. Next, the window for making our Senate requests is opening. Our policy team is gathering information on the timespan we will have for Senate requests, and we will share that with you as soon as possible. 1. Funding level requests: Take a look at our FY19 Appropriations memos outlining each of our requests: child health and nutrition; tuberculosis; the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; and the Global Partnership for Education. Use our current action sheet and laser talk designed to help you make your requests to your senators and to enlist others into action via an education and action meeting. 2. Sign-on letters: These are forthcoming.

So far in 2018, at least 23% of our global poverty groups have created an outreach activity – a #LettersGetLOUD letter-writing event, a talk to a faith-based group, a workshop in the community.
