But what's the tally for? Our goal is to have 100% of RESULTS groups and Free Agents meet face-to-face with their members of Congress or meet with local staff in person with participation by DC policy staff by the end of April. The scoreboard is looking great with completed and scheduled meetings. When you meet . . . take the Senate maternal/child health sign-on letter and ask for a signature. The Senate "Dear Colleague" letter asks appropriators for robust funding for maternal and child health, Gavi, and nutrition to support ending preventable maternal and child deaths. The deadline for signing this bipartisan letter is now TBD, but we absolutely don't want to wait. Check out the letter and ask your senators to sign today! As part of the First 100 Days, reach out to your community. It's having coffee with someone who wants to know more. It's inviting a new potential advocate to your local meeting, framed as an advocacy workshop by using our monthly action sheets and sample meeting guide – like the March Action Sheet (also in PDF) helping you write a letter to the editor about appropriations. It's all of these things, and in this time of invigorated civic awareness, you and your fellow advocates are perfectly primed to bring interested folks into our critical advocacy work. Earlier this spring, the White House released a budget blueprint that would slash U.S. investments in the fight against poverty around the world. Pitch this editorial packet to your local editor, asking them to issue a call for the preservation of this vital funding. 2. April Action Sheet Focused on the Senate. Now is the time to urge members of Congress to voice their support for protecting and increasing funding for anti-poverty programs in global health and education for fiscal year 2018. The House has completed the official process for weighing in, so now we turn our attention to the Senate. There are two key actions RESULTS advocates can take with their senators: 1) Ask your Senators to make a personal appropriations request to the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee (SFOPS) leadership and 2) ask your Senator to sign on to a maternal/child health (MCH) “Dear Colleague” letter. The 2017-18 REAL Change Fellowship for emerging leaders (age 18-30) is open for applications. 3. RESULTS Launches New Report, “From Free to Fee,” in Kenya. Recently, the East African Center for Human Rights (EACHRights) and RESULTS Educational Fund in partnership with the Global Initiative for Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (GI-ESCR) launched two reports in Kenya. The reports were launched as part of community meetings through which both organizations sought to bring back the results of their reports to the communities where the field research had taken place. The events provided a space for dialogue and the opportunity for all actors involved to commit to work together to ensure the realization of the right to free, quality education for every child. Read more online. 4. The Global Partnership for Education's (GPE) Case for Investment has been released. The report, "Fund Education: Shape the Future," was launched just last week, and our policy team will be offering more information soon on our advocacy around GPE's goal of securing $2 billion each year by 2020. Do you know someone who you think would be a strong voice for guiding our national organization? We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting nominations for the RESULTS & RESULTS Educational Fund Grassroots Board Member election, which will be held this summer. The two seats currently held by Vanessa Garcia and Cindy Changyit Levin will become vacant in July. This election will fill these seats, so that we continue to have four grassroots volunteers serving on our board. You can nominate someone who you think would be a strong voice representing RESULTS volunteers OR you can even nominate yourself if you want to take a bold new step in your leadership journey.
