Quote of the Week"The world is still losing 11 children under five years old every minute. Much of the problem is due to improper nutrition of the pregnant mother, or lack of proper care at birth, preventable disease or poor nutrition of the young child. We not only want these children to live, we want them to thrive." |
Newest Preparation Support for the 2016 RESULTS International ConferenceTavis Smiley—author, commentator, and invited guest for this year's International Conference—has said, “The choices we make about the lives we live determine the kinds of legacies we leave.” At RESULTS, we learn how to make – and how to influence others to make – powerful choices for the end of poverty. Come to DC and learn with us! The International Conference is an opportunity to learn and connect, but also to move the needle on our issues and deepen relationships. Dr. Rajiv Shah, Our National Grassroots Webinar Guest for June!Join us June 11, 2 pm ET. You won't want to miss the June national webinar/conference call for grassroots – global campaigns. Our invited guest is Dr. Rajiv Shah, former Administrator of USAID. Make plans with your group to gather, listen, learn, and participate. The Reach Act: So Close to our End-of-June Goal! We're taking it up a notch. Now is the time for representatives and senators to encourage the leadership of the House Foreign Affairs and Senator Foreign Relations Committees to work on the Reach Act (H.R. 3706/S. 1911). Media is making the case, and you've almost placed media 43 states, plus Puerto Rico and Washington, DC. Can we fill in those final seven states? Take a look at the map – perhaps you live in one of the states where we need to land media. Media is being published. Cosponsors are increasing the drumbeat of support. It's time for congressional leadership to act and take up the bill, particularly in the House! Our Reach Act Quarter 2 (April-June) goals: 150 cosponsors and 15 new Republicans on the House version of the bill. So far we have 148 cosponsors (58 of them Republicans, including the lead) . . . and 11 new Republicans. (And we have one-fifth of the Senate on S. 1911, with an event number of Republican and Democrat names on the list.) Fantastic. Keep going . . . we have four weeks, and we can make it to our House goal! The House and Senate are in recess this week, so many legislators will be in their home states and districts and may be available for meetings. Can you call on congressional leadership to show the courage moms and kids need us to show?

Road to Rio Fundraising ChallengeRecently RESULTS Executive Director Joanne Carter sent an email inviting all of you to join our Road to Rio Fundraising Challenge. We hope you have all signed up for this exciting campaign! The money we raise will benefit the advocacy work we are already doing. This campaign is a fun and easy way for us to all be fundraisers and celebrate the global collaboration of the 2016 Summer Olympics being held in Rio de Janeiro. This is the first time we are coordinating with RESULTS affiliates in the UK and Canada on a collective fundraising effort. You can get started by setting up your personal friends and family page here: https://friendraising.donorpro.com/campaigns/322. If you need help setting up a page, contact Grassroots Fundraising Associate Jen DeFranco. What's more, through the incredible generosity of one of our board members and his family, between now and June 26, if we collectively raise $35,000 through the Road to Rio Fundraising Challenge, an additional $15,000 contribution will be donated. Board Election & Bob Dickerson Award1. RESULTS & RESULTS Educational Fund is looking to fill one grassroots board position to serve a term of three (3) years beginning in July of 2016. (There are four grassroots board seats in total.) Grassroots board members represent the volunteer body on the Board of Directors and on the Executive Committee of the Board. It is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to work with the Executive Director in shaping the direction of RESULTS, advising on major policies for the organization, and providing fiduciary oversight. The Executive Committee of the Board is the primary governing body of the organization. Members meet frequently by conference call and are in communication via e-mail and telephone calls. Members must be able to participate at this level and are expected to chair or serve on a Board Committee(s) as well as participate in fundraising for the organization. Grassroots board members play a particular role in representing grassroots perspectives on the board. Our grassroots board candidates include Tadeo Melean Weiner (Kansas City U.S. poverty group), Maxine Thomas (Indianapolis U.S. poverty group) and Charles Wallace (Austin global poverty group). You may vote for one candidate. Remember voting ends Tuesday, July 5 at midnight ET. Click here to view candidate bios and statements. After you've reviewed the materials, click here to vote. 2. Bob Dickerson of Seattle was a grassroots advocate with RESULTS for more than 15 years. He was tireless in his advocacy and generous in his financial support. Bob epitomized this the best of what it means to be a grassroots volunteer. You can send your nominations to [email protected] (deadline June 11). In your nomination, tell us who you want to nominate. Include how the volunteer has achieved the mission of RESULTS, why they are a powerful citizen advocate, and how they inspire you. |
