July 16, 2025

With the passage of the Big Brutal Bill, it has been very difficult to find encouragement – yet there are glimmers of hope! On our July Rise Advocacy Chapter Webinar, we came together in communitand remained hopeful through taking action! We shared positive updates regarding FY26 appropriations as well as updates on the impact of the Senate rescissions vote, advocacy actions on the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria; and on Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Find resources here to take action this month!

Update on Rescissions Bill: The Senate has made key amendments to the Rescissions bill which protects HIV, TB, malaria, maternal & child health, and nutrition and food assistance programs and has done so in a bipartisan way (very good sign!). Other provisions for health, education, and development are at the risk of being cut. It is not too late to contact your Senator (and later your Representative when the bill now returns to the House) to vote “No” on these cuts.  Below please find an online action as well as sample phone call script:

  • For calls in to congressional aides, here is a suggested message:
I’m asking you to defend congress’ role over spending. Please vote NO on rescissions. The senate rightfully stood up to stop deep cuts to some key global health programs last night. This is a good first step. But it doesn’t change the underlying problem with the bill. The rescissions package still strips money from other health, education, and development programs. And it sets a dangerous precedent for congressional authority over spending. We continue to ask you to vote NO.
