September 2023 U.S. Policy Forum: Understanding the 2022 Census poverty data
According to the U.S. Census, child poverty more than doubled in 2022, with more than 5 million children falling below the poverty line. 3 million of those children are now living in poverty because Congress chose to let the 2021 expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) expire. Meredith Dodson, Senior Director of Public Policy at the Coalition on Human Needs (www.chn.org) – and former RESULTS staff person – walks us through the new Census poverty data and how to use it to push Congress to expand the CTC in 2023.
