Contact your representatives today about appropriations requests!

Today is the day to act on our House appropriations requests and “Dear Colleague” letters. House appropriators have set the following appropriations request deadlines:

  • Foreign assistance: this Friday, March 13. Requests go to the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs subcommittee or NSRP, formerly called SFOPS.
  • Housing: next Friday, March 20. Requests go to the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development subcommittee or T-HUD.

Additionally, House “Dear Colleague” letters in support our requests are now circulating. But these Dear Colleague letters also have immediate deadlines (this week).

We must act now. Please submit your House appropriations forms for foreign assistance and housing as soon as possible. Also, please contact your House foreign policy aides urging their bosses to sign the “Dear Colleague” letters. Please let them know the deadlines are this week. You’ll find appropriations memos and support materials on our website, as well as information on the House “Dear Colleague” letters (including the updated deadlines for signing, a signer scorecard, and the letters themselves).

Need help with the appropriations forms? Appropriations Office Hours will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET and Friday 12 p.m. ET. See details in our events calendar. You can also contact RESULTS’ Katie Fleischer for help with appropriations forms. Thank you to all who have already been submitting our fiscal year 2027 (FY27) appropriations requests and requesting signers for our “Dear Colleague” letters. The appropriations process is a uniquely powerful way we influence the congressional budgeting process every year for the end of poverty.

Book your spring lobby meetings

To complement your incredible appropriations work, please book your spring lobby meetings! You can use these meetings to either make your appropriations requests (Senate) or reinforce and follow up on ones you’ve made (House).

On our website, we have a suite of helpful resources for your meetings. We offer a sample email template to help you reach out to the scheduler, issue backgrounders, and much more. When requesting meetings, ask for meetings with the lawmakers face-to-face. Keep in mind that Congress will take a two-week congressional recess March 30 through April 10. Ask to meet with your representative and senators in-person during this recess. If they are unavailable, schedule a meeting with local staff in an in-district office and ask relevant DC aides to join virtually.

Once you get a meeting scheduled, please contact RESULTS’ Katie Fleischer to schedule a lobby prep meeting with RESULTS staff. Need even more support? Check out our March National Webinar recording, which focused on lobbying support and encouragement. You can also find resources on our 2026 Campaign page, “Build a Better Future.” And don’t hesitate to reach out to your fellow advocates, Group Leaders, Regional Coordinators, and RESULTS staff. We’re all in this together!

The funds you raise support the education, training, research, and legislative strategy that make our work so impactful — both for ending poverty and for a strong democracy! Contact RESULTS staffer Lesley Reed for help setting up your fundraising page and Regional Coordinator Beth Wilson for support with your fundraiser.

Join the RESULTS Power Building Gathering on March 19. Individual action matters, but organized voices shape the policies that can end poverty. That’s why we’re hosting the RESULTS Power Building Gathering on Thursday, March 19 at 8 p.m. ET. If you want to build stronger people power in your community, deepen the impact of the work you’re already doing, or simply learn how organizing strengthens our advocacy, this gathering is for you. Register today.

Register for the March 20 Anti-Oppression Learning Community gathering. The Anti-Oppression (AO) Learning Community is a space for RESULTS advocates, staff, and partners to deepen their understanding of systemic oppression and explore how it shapes our advocacy and lived experiences. Register today. This 90-minute session will begin at 12 p.m. ET. It will explore what it means to view RESULTS’ policy issues through a human rights lens: examining what defines a human right, whose voices are valued in a democracy, and how power and lived experience shape whose needs are prioritized.

TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Submit House appropriations forms and make “Dear Colleague” signature requests today. Book spring lobby meetings. Check out new National Conference hotel information. Hold a spring Friends & Family Fundraiser online. Join the RESULTS Power Building Gathering on March 19. And be sure to register for the March 20 Anti-Oppression Learning Community gathering.
