RESULTS Weekly Update June 2, 2026

June 2, 2026

Quote of the Week

“Every dollar cut from global health security is a debt we will eventually repay at catastrophic cost – in lives, in economic disruption and in national security.”

– RESULTS advocate Pleasance Ampim, in a May 31 letter to the editor in the Dominion Post (WV)

Use this week to plan how you will build community power

The RESULTS National Conference July 12-14 will finish with a phenomenal day on Capitol Hill. We will fan out to lobby our members of Congress on the poverty-related issues we care about. But our movement is year-round and even bigger than those who can join us in Washington. If you want to bring an end to poverty, building relational power in our communities and with decision-makers is pivotal. This week, you have two important opportunities to do that.

First, join us on June 4 at 8 p.m. ET for the next Power Building Gathering. Meaningful relationships build power long-term. One-on-one conversations, the skill of community mapping, and other tools can be utilized to lay the groundwork for long-term power. Register for this creative hour.

Then register for the RESULTS National Webinar this Saturday, June 6, at 1 p.m. ET. We’ll keep exploring local power building as well as dive into support for your National Conference-related lobbying.

Prep for the National Conference’s Lobby Day

Are you coming to the RESULTS National Conference July 12-14? We’re already getting excited to welcome so many of you to the nation’s capital for learning, community, and speaking directly to congressional offices.

Time is growing short to make your arrangements. You must register no later than June 12. This is the deadline for registration, hotel bookings, and application for our equity fund for financial support.

Next, work with your fellow advocates to start booking your meetings for Lobby Day on Tuesday, July 14. Aim to book Senate meetings in the morning and House meetings in the afternoon for maximum efficiency for the day. Use our sample meeting request template and then please report each meeting scheduled (and see our checklist to help you prepare).

Then take advantage of the upcoming weeks of preparation webinars you can take part in.

  • “Researching Your Member(s) of Congress” on June 11. Regional Coordinator Allison Gallaher will lead this 90-minute session focused on accessible research tools and applied practice. Register today for this webinar that begins at 8:30 pm ET.
  • Weekly lobby prep webinars. We will be holding lobby prep webinars in June and early July. Each week, we will offer the same webinar twice and cover a specific topic for lobby meetings in DC. We strongly urge everyone attending the conference to please join. Here are the dates and topics by week (find login details in our Events calendar):
    • U.S. nutrition, housing and tax: June 8 (8:30 pm ET) and June 10 (12 pm ET)
    • Global tuberculosis: June 17 (8:30 pm ET) and June 18 (12 pm ET)
    • Cross-cutting foreign aid issues: June 23 (12 pm ET) and June 25 (8:30 pm ET)
    • Late-breaking updates and Q&A: July 6 (12 pm ET) and July 7 (8:30 pm ET)

Every week, you’re getting published!

It is so inspiring to see your letters to the editor and op-eds getting published day after day. (Check out publications by your fellow advocates for encouragement.) This is all part of our Amplify Every Voice media campaign. Our objective? To make sure our issues stay in the public conversation! The goal of the campaign is two-fold. We want each of our volunteers to submit at least one media piece. Then we want each group to reach out to a community partner and support them to write as well.

Unfortunately, reasons to write abound. But that’s where your passion, skill, and commitment come in. What is your local paper already talking about? A community housing crunch? Households making tough choices between food, gas, and rent? Global humanitarian crises? These are your hooks for writing. Reference both the topic and the article, commenting on it in your letter and then informing the reader on the policy solutions we propose.

Want to maximize your chances of getting published? Try these tips as mentioned in a recent RESULTS blog:

  • Be prompt: Respond to an article or local happening within two days to maximize relevance.
  • Be brief: Check your local paper’s specifications, but keep in mind that, generally, letters to the editor aren’t longer than 200 words.
  • Be specific: Include the name(s) of your congressional legislators so their staff notice.

We offer online starter templates, and we also have national story hooks. You can also further customize your letter with a new resource that supplies congressional district data to emphasize your point. When you submit a letter, please contact RESULTS staffer Sarah Leone, as that effort is so important. And if you get published, please report it via our form so we can share and celebrate!

Don’t miss out!

You can still vote in the Grassroots Board Member Election. Do you care deeply about RESULTS and its mission? We need you to participate in choosing volunteers to represent you on the RESULTS Board of Directors. Two open seats on the RESULTS Board of Directors are being filled. The deadline to vote is Monday, June 15Learn about the candidates and cast your vote!

You can still participate in spring Friends & Family fundraising. You may have colleagues, friends, family, and others who want to support your advocacy. Why not create and offer a spring Friends & Family fundraiser to capture that support. It only takes a few minutes! For support, contact Beth Wilson at [email protected]. (You can also support your fellow volunteers by making a donation to their fundraisers.) Every donation is leveraged for our mission!

TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Join the June 4 power building webinar and the June 6 National Webinar. Register for “Researching Your Member(s) of Congress” on June 11 and mark your calendars for lobby prep webinars in June and July. Then make sure your registration, hotel reservations, and equity fund application are completed by June 12. Get your letter to the editor published during our Amplify Every Voice media campaign. Participate in the Grassroots Board Member elections (closing June 15). And consider a last-minute spring Friends & Family fundraiser.
