Get media published while lawmakers are home

Congress is on recess all this week. Why not utilize this time to put pen write your next letter to the editor? Imagine your members of Congress opening their local paper this week and reading your latest piece on investing in global health and education, expanding the Child Tax Credit, protecting Housing Choice Vouchers, or standing up for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

Add your voice to the chorus! We have our media alerts on our website. Use them as templates for your own personalized letters to the editor. Share the templates with others. Your effort, published or not, is crucial. Please let RESULTS staffer Sarah Leone every time you or a group ally submit a letter to a media outlet. And if you get published, don’t forget to report it.

Remember to send published media to DC. We’re very close to crossing 200 published media pieces as we continue our Amplify Every Voice media campaign. And while each of those pieces is read by the community, drawing new persons into awareness and action, it is crucial that these printed pieces reach our legislators. The number of legislating days for Congress is very short between now and the election. Congress must hear from you. Envision delivering a stack of your published letters to congressional offices in Washington, DC, next week. We even have links to your published media.

Plan ahead for August. Remember that there is no National Webinar in July. But make sure you and your group are booked to join the Saturday, August 1 National Webinar. (Register today.) We are thrilled to welcome Cody Reuschel, Membership Mobilization Manager for ONE Campaign’s advocacy team here in the U.S. It will be a wonderful opportunity to debrief with those from your group who attended the National Conference and hear ideas for continuing to build relationships not just with your legislators, but with your community. We’re building the power of the movement! Our special guide offers great ideas for this.

RESULTS National Conference begins Sunday

We’re thrilled to welcome so many of you to Washington, DC this coming weekend! RESULTS volunteers are gathering for their biggest DC event since our last conference in 2019. It’s been way too long and we are eager to get this party started. For those of you coming to DC, here are some last-minute suggestions to help you be prepared:

Review the conference welcome packet. All registrants have been sent the conference welcome packet which includes complete information on conference logistics and what you can expect. Find it on our conference webpage.

Finish booking those National Conference lobby meetings. We are at 128 meetings and counting for Advocacy Day, Tuesday, July 14. What a powerful day it will be. Having trouble getting lobby meetings or not yet finished booking them? Customize our sample meeting request template and send it today. Please reach out to RESULTS staff if you need additional help. And remember that every time you get a meeting booked, please report your booked meeting using our online form. This helps us better support you on Advocacy Day. Please don’t skip this step!

Ask policy questions. At 8:30 p.m. ET tonight (July 7), our final lobby prep session will offer any late-breaking updates and time for questions. Log in using our Zoom link (no registration required). Also, please don’t forget that we recorded our previous sessions on U.S. nutrition, housing, and tax policy; global tuberculosis; and cross-cutting foreign aid issues.

If you can’t travel to DC, take action from home. For those of you who are not able to attend the conference, plan to participate in Advocacy Day from home. We’ll send an action alert next Tuesday (in lieu of a regular Weekly Update) while your fellow volunteers are on Capitol Hill lobbying for the end of poverty. Use the alert to take action in solidarity with those in DC! And please be sure to share it with others.

TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Review the National Conference welcome packet. Book final conference  Advocacy Day meetings. Report each scheduled Advocacy Day meeting via our online form. Plan to attend the final conference issue prep webinar tonight. Help us get over the 200 mark for the Amplify Every Voice media campaign. Plan to bring your group together for the next National Webinar on August 1.
