RESULTS Weekly Update July 22, 2025

Quote of the Week

“Patients left behind [from the One Big Beautiful Bill] will crowd the hospitals that remain, or they might be forced to forgo medical care altogether. Make America healthy again indeed.”

– RESULTS Virginia volunteer Randy Rosso in a July 14 letter to the editor in the Washington Post

Keep supporting Gavi and the Global Fund

As our summer Action Matters campaign continues, we’re highlighting ways you and your fellow advocates can champion our U.S. and global poverty priorities in specific ways. So, first, there is some good news to report on the global poverty front, and we are tracking it all on an evolving blog post. We recently learned that the House has proposed an increase in FY26 funding for global health, and that would positively affect essentially all our global issues. (More specifics soon.) Keep in mind, too, that while the rescissions package clawing back previously allocated global health monies passed, it passed narrowly. Amazingly, the Senate was able to preserve U.S. funding across our global poverty priorities. And during the rescissions process, members of Congress on both sides of the aisle voiced their opposition to what was deemed a dangerous precedent. Positive moves like this don’t just happen. They happen because advocates like you are persistent and clear in their messages to Congress.

The House Appropriations Committee will deal with its foreign aid bill tomorrow (Wednesday). To keep tabs on the House vote, check back on the blog on Wednesday. We will do a full analysis of the outcomes. But with Wednesday’s vote in mind, we need to continue our support of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Both entities were created in the early 2000s. They have spent over two decades doing astonishing work. Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a global partnership that increases lower-income countries’ access to vaccination. But leadership in the funding for Gavi is under threat. The same is true for the Global Fund. The Global Fund has helped save 65 million lives across the world and across three diseases. The U.S. must continue its tradition of committing $1 to the Global Fund for every $2 pledged by other donors. Make sure Congress knows U.S. leadership contributions to Gavi and the Global Fund must continue. Use our Gavi and Global Fund action alerts, and then share them!

“Write to Fight Back” is tonight!

Have you been motivated to write about how the latest policy moves by Congress (particularly the budget reconciliation bill) will negatively impact individuals and families? The ways that its provisions will set back progress on ending poverty? That’s why we’re highlighting media advocacy right now. Your local media outlets are perfect places to say thank you for a vote. They are also ideal places to hold a legislator accountable for a vote. In just a few minutes, using our online guide, you can submit a letter to the editor clearly calling out the reconciliation bill’s consequences.

It could be that you have never written a letter to the editor before. Or perhaps you’re looking for tips on how to bring your own voice into your writing and really make an impact through your personal perspective. Or you may love to write and would love tips on enrolling others to do the same. That’s why we’re offering the “Write to Fight Back” webinar tonight, Tuesday, July 22 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Join a supportive collective of advocates from around the country. Work together to write. Then, together, hit the “submit” button on your written pieces in support of anti-poverty programs. Cutting these programs is unacceptable. Let the media know. Register today!
