Your calls to preserve foreign assistance still matter

The past two weeks have been a flurry of activity since White House actions halted lifesaving health and development programs around the world. Members of Congress from coast to coast have been hearing from you about the heartbreaking danger and impact of this move. The lives and health of so many hang in the balance as services have stopped and the future and independence of USAID is in question. While good faith reform efforts are certainly reasonable, endangering lives is not. Members of Congress from both parties have already spoken out, but much more action is needed. Congress must speak up now to reverse this harm. The stop-work order must be ended. Programs under the waiver must be restarted. And Congress must be involved in shaping foreign aid’s future. Please review our updated action-taking and background materials on our blog. We will keep this blog updated with breaking news and updated actions you can take. Right now, please email or call representatives and senators directly. And please harness the power of the media to protect foreign aid.

First 100 Days lobby push needs you

Fifteen meetings and counting! Our First 100 Days lobby push has only just begun, and already you’re on the map — literally! Meetings with members of Congress are key to transformational advocacy. We build long-term relationships with members of Congress and their staff so that, together, we can make a difference for the end of poverty. So don’t wait to get started! Your group can find First 100 Days lobbying support and a post-meeting report form on our Actions and Allies page. You’ll also find a map of completed and reported meetings. When you have booked a meeting with a member of Congress, you can request staff lobby prep support by emailing Katie Fleischer at [email protected]. Let’s reach the entirety of the Senate and all key House members by the end of April. Make the case for programs that mitigate the worst effects of poverty. Share your views and your passion. We ARE making a difference.

Two ways to support the Child Tax Credit

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-3-CT) and fellow members of Congress will soon introduce the American Family Act, the gold standard Child Tax Credit (CTC) bill that RESULTS supports. Sign your local RESULTS group onto an organizational sign-on letter. After you’ve done that, ask Democratic House members to cosponsor the American Family Act. We need to build as much public support as possible for the expanded monthly Child Tax Credit, and these are two great ways to help!

TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Email or call Congress to protect foreign aid, book First 100 Days lobby meetings and meeting prep, and have your local RESULTS group and your Democratic House members support an expanded monthly Child Tax Credit.
