Call your representatives about the READ Act and End TB Now Act

Congress plans to adjourn the 118th Congress in a few days. When Congress adjourns, all unpassed legislation disappears. Bills that got close to passage will have to be re-introduced, debated, and voted on again. This is why we are pushing so hard right now to pass the READ Act Reauthorization (H.R. 681) and End Tuberculosis Now Act (H.R. 1776).

The Senate has already passed both of these bipartisan bills. We are only one House vote from making them law. But if the House doesn’t pass them now, we’ll have to start over in the new Congress. We know all too well that this could add months and even years of delay.

Congress has several “must-pass” bills they must get to before they leave. We want House leaders to attach H.R. 681 and H.R. 1776 to one of these bills. And we need your help to get it done.

TAKE ACTION: Please call (202) 224-3121 today and ask for your representative’s office (find out who your representative is). When connected, please leave this message:

My name is ___________ and a constituent from ________________. I volunteer with RESULTS and we need your help with two bipartisan House bills vital to global health and development.

The READ Act Reauthorization (H.R. 681) supports access to quality basic education for primary school kids in low-income countries, particularly focusing on girls’ education. The End Tuberculosis Now Act (H.R. 1776) focuses on improving the fight against tuberculosis by finding, testing, and treating the leading infectious disease killer in the world. Both bills push the U.S. Agency for International Development to create bold strategies and to better monitor and evaluate the programs to ensure efficiency, accountability, and impact.

Both bills have incredible bipartisan support and have already passed the Senate. Will you please tell Representative __________ to speak to House leadership to urge them to include BOTH of these bills in one of the final must-pass legislative packages this year?

Please forward this action to others and ask them to call too.

We need your media advocacy now

Thank you to everyone who is still working hard to get media published this month on tuberculosis, education, hunger, and child poverty. As of this morning, you’ve gotten 178 media pieces published as part of our Double/50 media campaign – more than halfway to our goal of 300 by the end of December.

With the End Tuberculosis Now Act and the READ Act hanging in the balance as well as the future of SNAP, the Child Tax Credit, and the Earned Income Tax Credit coming up early in 2025, your letters to the editor and op-eds are critical right now. If we want Congress to prioritize these issues in our favor, we need your local media to get the attention.

TAKE ACTION: Submit your next letter to the editor today! Help us get to 300 media pieces covering all 50 states by the end of the year. Our Double/50 Campaign media hooks tracker has updated media templates on all our current issues, as well as regularly updated hooks for letters and op-eds. If you need help drafting or submitting your next letter, contact Jos Linn for assistance. And when you get published, please let us know in our media report form. (Here are the 16 states where we still need media: AL, AR, CO, DE, GA, KS, KY, LA, MS, MT, NE, NH, NJ, RI, SD, WI.)

Don’t wait! Get started on group planning!

We were so inspired by Rep. Barbara Lee on the December National Webinar as well as by the review of all your successes in 2024. What a great celebration! Now, let’s build on those successes in 2025. The first step? Group planning! Your group leaders have received a 2025 Group Roadmap template, plus individual planning forms and a guide to help each group complete the planning process. Can your group book a meeting to complete planning by January 15? You can also find planning materials under “Make your group plans” on our “Working with Your RESULTS Group” page on our website. Questions? Contact Jos Linn.
