Call in on Wednesday to support TB advocates on Capitol Hill
This week, over 200 tuberculosis advocates from across the U.S. will unite with the TB Roundtable to urge Congress to take action on Capitol Hill. Their message will be clear. We must fully reinstate USAID TB programs. We must ensure FY25 funding is used as directed. We must protect and increase FY26 funding for global bilateral TB programs and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria. Support the efforts of these advocates. Call your representatives and senators tomorrow, April 9, at (202) 224-3121. Leave this message:
Hello, my name is __________, and I am a constituent from __________. I’m calling about tuberculosis (TB). In 2023, 10.8 million people fell ill with TB, and 1.25 million died. But we know how to prevent, treat, and cure it. Thanks to decades of bipartisan support, we’ve made significant progress, but the disruptions at USAID threaten to reverse these gains. Congress must act. I urge Rep./Sen. __________ to demand the full reinstatement of TB programs and to support $1 billion for global bilateral TB programs and $2 billion for the Global Fund for AIDS, TB, and Malaria in fiscal year 2026. We can end TB, but only with protected and expanded funding for these programs.
First 100 Days: Don’t let up now!
On this past Saturday’s National Webinar, former Senator Sherrod Brown told us, “I am more hopeful than most about your potential victories.” We were fortunate to hear from him how our advocacy makes a clear difference. And in an effort to make that difference, you are delivering. Nationwide, you have held at least 161 meetings with congressional offices and have hit the halfway mark in the attempt to cover all 100 Senate offices. Congress will be on recess April 12-27. What a fantastic opportunity to meet with your legislators in-person. Remember that positive action sets the stage for positive outcomes. Be persistent. Keep making your meeting requests. Our Actions and Allies page offers issue briefs, laser talks and more. Review how to overcome common barriers in meeting with Congress from our National Webinar. And if you’re talking FY26 global poverty appropriations in your meetings, stop by our Appropriations member form office hour on Friday, April 11 at 1:00 p.m. ET. You can also request personalized coaching from RESULTS staff. We’re here to help you succeed!
Tell the House to vote NO on the budget resolution
Last weekend, the Senate passed its FY25 budget resolution, paving the way for a harmful reconciliation bill. This plan threatens billions in cuts to vital programs like SNAP and Medicaid while extending tax breaks for the wealthy (and using a budget gimmick to hide the costs). The House may vote on it as soon as tomorrow. If passed, this could set the stage for these damaging cuts to become law this year. Call your representatives at (202) 224-3121 and demand they vote NO on the budget resolution. RESULTS will also send out a call-in alert tomorrow.
Special note – Last call for Grassroots Board member nominations! Nominations close Tuesday, April 15. Check out our blog for details on how to nominate a great leader!
TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Book a meeting with Congress, and for Wednesday: Make a call on tuberculosis and tell the House to reject harmful budget resolution (see above).
