RESULTS Weekly Update April 28, 2026
Quote of the Week
“But Congress holds the power of the purse and needs to stand up for programs that make the world healthier, productive, stable, and safer for everyone.”
– RESULTS advocate Anne Child, in an April 22 letter to the editor in the Knoxville News Sentinel

Final hours for Senate “Dear Colleague” signatures
We now have all four anticipated global health and education “Dear Colleague” letters circulating for signatures. But all signatures are due by the end of the day tomorrow, April 29!
“Dear Colleague” letters send a signal to appropriators about what Congress sees as priorities. The higher the number of signatures, the more positive pressure each letter puts on appropriators. That’s why your work on these quick turnaround letters has been so crucial. While we did not choose these deadlines, there is still time to get things done!
The four letters support the following:
- The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
- Bilateral tuberculosis programs
- Maternal/child health, Gavi (vaccines), and nutrition
- Basic education and the Global Partnership for Education
You will find details on how senators can sign on our website. Remember, all letters close tomorrow, April 29!
Once you have worked on the “Dear Colleague” letters, please finish your Senate appropriations requests by April 30. The FY27 appropriations memos and “cheat sheets” on our website will be a huge help. You can also get expert support at Wednesday’s Appropriations Forms Office Hour with RESULTS staffer Katie Fleischer.
Thank you so much for your persistent work throughout our appropriations push. Your stalwart advocacy is literally worth billions.
Join Saturday’s National Webinar with Jay Evensen
Join us this Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m. ET for the RESULTS National Webinar. As we dive deeper into our Amplify Every Voice media campaign, we are delighted to welcome Jay Evensen, Opinion Editor of the Deseret News (Utah) as our guest on Saturday. He will share his journalistic advice and expertise to help us better highlight the policies needed to reduce poverty in the media. We’ll also get you up to speed on what’s happening in Congress right now. And you’ll have the chance to meet the candidates for the Grassroots Board Member election. Please join us. Register today!
Get published as we Amplify Every Voice
As we ramp up our Amplify Every Voice media campaign, can you submit at least ONE media piece before the end of July? Can your RESULTS group make at least ONE request to a community ally or partnership group (Action Network, potential new advocates, local partners, etc.) to write and submit a media piece? If every RESULTS volunteer submits at least one media piece and every RESULTS group collaborates with at least one community partner on media, we can make a big impact.
Pick your issue and write. Want to address hunger? Talk about protecting SNAP in the new Farm Bill. Want a more equitable tax code? Tell Congress to expand the Child Tax Credit. Want your tax dollars to be spent on health and education instead of war? Urge Congress to fund international humanitarian assistance. We have online templates on these issues, as well as helpful hooks, to help get you started. Use and share!
Pro tip: Send your submissions to your members of Congress, calling on them to prioritize solutions to poverty in their policy-making. Even if you don’t get published, it lets them know you are trying and may succeed. (Follow up if you get published.) Oh, and did we mention how cool it would be to take a stack of published media into Senate and House offices during the Lobby Day of the National Conference this summer? Get writing today, and ask a friend to join you!
RESULTS advocates being amazing!
Every day, you – our advocates – continue to amaze. Just a few examples:
- Recently, RESULTS Virginia advocate Randy Rosso received the Dr. Raymond Wheeler/Senator Paul Wellstone Anti-Hunger Advocacy Leadership Award given by the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC). Randy also recently gave a Ted Talk at Tedx Boston College. His talk was focused on food insecurity and poverty, and you can read the text of his talk on his Substack.
- Over the weekend, former RESULTS Fellow Nadia Hasan was quoted in a Washington Post piece on the impact of rising utility costs.
- Expert on Poverty James Lee of Charlotte has an op-ed on www.otherwords.org highlighting the intersection of safety net support and the lives of veterans.
These are the type of active, incredible advocates you’ll meet at the RESULTS National Conference in July. And there will be yet one more inspirational advocate for people to meet if you are there! Won’t you join us July 12-14 in Washington, DC? Visit our RESULTS Conference page to register, book your hotel, and apply for travel assistance.
TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Finish gathering Senate “Dear Colleague” letter signatures. Submit final Senate appropriations forms. Make plans for Saturday’s National Webinar. Get published during the Amplify Every Voice Media Campaign. Read about wonderful work by advocates in Virginia, Michigan, and Charlotte. And register for the National Conference in July.
