RESULTS Weekly Update April 1, 2025
Quote of the Week
“Every day I see how vital food assistance is for overall health. For kids to have the drive and concentration that everyone talks about every day, they can’t be hungry.”
– RESULTS Grassroots Board Member and former Expert on Poverty Aaron Carrillo, during a March 25 congressional hearing on Capitol Hill.

First 100 Days: Launching into April
From coast to coast, you are engaging in change-making lobby meetings. Since January, you have held at least 139 lobby meetings with 119 different offices. We must continue! Congress is back in DC and a budget resolution and FY26 appropriations are on the docket. The Senate could vote on the budget resolution in the next week, which could open the door to deep cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. And the attacks on foreign aid continue with the Trump Administration signaling it will no longer fund Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. But these outcomes are not set in stone. Action creates change and your lobby meetings this month can be the difference. So we must keep going. Have you felt intimidated to get started? That’s a common feeling, but everyday people just like you are taking a leap and truly discovering their power. Keep making your meeting requests. Make sure lawmakers know you are not going away. Our Actions and Allies page offers issue briefs, laser talks and more, as we want to help you achieve success. These tools will help you prepare and succeed in these meetings. Ask questions at the Researching Your Member(s) of Congress office hour on Wednesday, April 2, 8:30-9:30 p.m. ET. You can also request personalized coaching from RESULTS staff. This is our time to do what we do best!
Write about SNAP this week
A week ago today, the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee held a hearing on SNAP. Former Expert on Poverty and current Grassroots Board Member Aaron Carrillo testified. Video testimony by other current and former Experts on Poverty were featured as well. Read about this powerful event on our blog and then use it as a hook for your next letter to the editor. Letters about SNAP highlight the need to preserve and protect this vital program, which helps 40 million Americans buy food each month. Use the templates in our Action Center to submit letters today. And if you’ve written about SNAP recently, please write about one of our other campaigns. Medicaid, the Child Tax Credit, and foreign assistance all need our attention.
TL;DR (too long; didn’t read): Keep going in April as the First 100 Days gains steam, register for the April 5 National Webinar, and get published on our issues!
