October 2020 Laser Talk: Urge Congress to Finally Pass COVID-19 Relief

Engage: Hi, my name is ______, and I’m a constituent. A recent poll by the ONE Campaign confirms my sentiments that Congress must include a global response to this global pandemic in any supplemental spending bill. According to the poll, “[n]early all voters (87%) say working to stop the global spread of COVID-19 should be a priority for the U.S. And, nearly all voters say it is important for the U.S. to lead the world in responding (85%), preventing (86%), and detecting (85%) global infectious diseases.”

Problem: Projections are that global health could be set back 10-20 years and millions of children and adults could die from lack of healthcare, malnutrition, and disease without some additional resources.

Inform: But increasing U.S. support to existing global health programs like Gavi, the Global Fund, and PEPFAR, as well as investing in food aid and nutrition, will make a difference.

Call to Action: Will you ask your boss to please speak to leadership and urge them to negotiate a COVID-19 supplemental bill that includes a global response? Can someone please report back on actions taken?
