Top Actions: Congress is Back From Recess. Ask Them to Act on Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance!

Time for everyone to get to work, including Congress. Pick your top two favorite ways to take action on Gavi.

• 10 Minutes: Ask your representative to cosponsor House Resolution 688 on Gavi and child vaccines. On Wednesday there will be 66 names on the resolution, including over 20 Republicans. We need your help to get us to our goal of 115. This legislation has strong bipartisan support and needs the backing of everyone; saving kids' lives is a human issue!
• 15 Minutes: Use our Gavi laser talk to call your representative's or senators' offices, ask for the foreign policy aide, and request that the legislators write to President Obama about Gavi. You can use our online action to make that request of your legislators.
• 20 Minutes: Ask the editor of your local newspaper to write about Gavi. Let him/her know that one of the best ways to provide protection from diseases like Ebola is to help poor nations strengthen their healthcare systems, which Gavi does. Send them this great, short background document. Learn more about working with editors on our site.
• 30 minutes: Listen to a bit of the November 8 webinar recording featuring Geoff Adlide, director of advocacy and public policy for Gavi.Then write a letter to the editor (using our online tool) highlighting the need to invest in child vaccinations and the strengthening of healthcare systems. Name your representative and senators in your letter and call on them to act. If you want ideas, draw from media other volunteers have already generated (79 pieces and counting)!

The Virtual Thanksgiving Feast

Many thanks to our Santa Fe group for hosting a fundraising event on November 9. They had nearly 100 people in attendance and more than doubled the funds raised at their event last year. Way to go, Santa Fe! 

This week RESULTS board member Kul Gautam will begin a short U.S. speaking tour to support some of our groups local fundraising events. You can find detailed event information here:

For our continuing Gavi focus, we'll welcome long-time RESULTS supporter, Jay Evensen of the Deseret News and Dr. Rebecca Nantanda of Makerere University College of Health Sciences in Uganda, member of the Uganda Paediatric Association, and Head of Department at Kadic Hospital Bukoto.
