Global Poverty Weekly Update September 30, 2019

October 3, 2019

Quote of the Week

“One cannot put a price tag on an individual’s life, but as caring, ethical humans we can invest in the Global Fund . . . “

~ Mercedeh Tavacoli, Kansan RESULTS advocate, in the Lawrence Journal-World (September 23, 2019)

Time for Global Fund Follow-up and Media

You’ve done outstanding work gathering cosponsors for H.Res. 517 and S.Res. 318 in support of the Global Fund.

Why are we so passionate about this? These resolutions in the House and Senate call for continued U.S. leadership on Global Fund, which will help save an additional 16 million lives over the next three years and move the world closer to ending AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria once and for all. The Global Fund recently released its annual report, upping the number of lives saved since 2002 to 32 million. The incredible work of the Global Fund must not slow.

Even though Congress is on recess, the occasional pro forma session in the House may be a moment when representatives can get their names on H.Res. 517 in support of the Global Fund, before the October 10 replenishment. Make your call today!

Got 10 Minutes? Use our online action to call your representative about H.Res. 517.

What States Need Global Fund Media? Over 200 pieces of media so far! Media in all 50 states will put positive pressure on Congress to take action on U.S. Global Fund leadership. Use the resources on our blog to write. Check out the map and help us fill it in.

Senate Appropriations Update: What We Know

In Congress, the end of the fiscal year always stirs up a flurry of actions to ensure the government stays funded and that at least stop-gap spending bills are passed to avert the worst case – a government shutdown. Click onto our blog to get an update on what we know.

Want to Grow?

Plan for Growth. Growing groups doesn’t always have to be about organizing outreach events. Why not identify the potential in people we know and supporting them in taking action that transforms them and the world? This idea is the focus of the new Sept.-Dec. planning document now available for you and your groups to consider and fill out. This short form will help focus and guide you for enrolling and engaging others in advocacy, both for the benefit of your group and – ultimately – for the benefit of our campaigns! Click to fill out the form today.

New Volunteer Advocacy Training Launches Very Soon. Our terrific Expansion team is offering a comprehensive new volunteer orientation and advocacy training experience. Once a new advocate has attended an orientation, there will be an invitation to attend a 6-week training designed to help them brush up on advocacy skills, dive into current campaigns, and become familiar with support tools RESULTS has available to assist them in their advocacy. Each of these sessions drills down into how you can take your advocacy expertise to the next level with RESULTS. Check out all the information on the 6-week training piece on our website. This new opportunity begins October 17. Spread the word!
