Quick Action

Take Action: Reach Out to Congress About TB Appropriations

We Can Still Make Forward Progress This Congress

1. TB Appropriations. Make a call before December 7 to your senator(s) or representative about TB appropriations. Your legislators can help send an early signal that the U.S. is committed to ending TB by asking the Chair and Ranking member of the State and Foreign Ops Subcommittee of Appropriations to use the House bilateral TB funding amount of $302 million in the final 2019 spending bill. The additional funding will save a lot of lives and send a powerful message to the world about the U.S. commitment to reaching 40 million people with TB treatment by 2022. Ask your legislators if they can take this important action right away. The timing for this message is perfect, as we’re keenly aware of how TB and HIV coinfection exacerbates the issue of poverty in the world, World AIDS Day is coming up December 1, and we’re gearing up for a Global Fund replenishment year in 2019.

Have you completed your TB appropriations outreach? Time is running short. Make your call by December 7. And if you have already reached out, now is the time for your follow-up calls.

2. Reach Every Mother and Child Act. As of November 20, there are 208 names on the House version of the bill and 49 on the Senate version. Can we reach 218 in House and 50 in the Senate? We are 11 away! Even as the year marches toward a close, we must continue to push this important legislation to the front, growing the list of cosponsors so that the call for support for this live-saving legislation is loud and clear now and for any future work we do on the issue. We are building the bench of support. Ask your senator(s) or representative to support maternal and child health by cosponsoring the Reach Act today.

Virtual Thanksgiving Feast Hits Its Stride This Week!

The Virtual Thanksgiving Feast (VTF) Friends and Family Campaign is a peer-to-peer, online fundraiser to benefit RESULTS running in November, a month of gratitude. Your participation in grassroots fundraising is an important part of making RESULTS’ work possible, both through mobilization of resources and visibility. Sign up to fundraise and find out more online. Volunteers and staff coast-to-coast already have their fundraisers up and running. Contact Mea Geizhals, Grassroots Fundraising Manager, for support.

P.S. Don’t forget that #GivingTuesday is one week away. Donations to support our work can easily be made online.

Post-Election Efforts and Energy

  • During the Holidays, Broadcast Media Could Share the Hopeful Story of RESULTS. Many people will be wondering, “What now?” after the elections and as we move into the holiday season. Local media will want to address that question. Your involvement with RESULTS is a great media story because you have an answer to that question. Take 15-20 minutes to research your local stations and send a pitch the News Director, asking them to do a story on your RESULTS group. You can find a sample pitch with additional guidance online. You can also learn more about this from a recent webinar by Colin Smith, Director of Communications.
  • November Action Sheet for Outreach to New Congress. The November 2018 elections decided who works for you in Washington for the next two years as part of the 116th US Congress. There will be people returning to DC, but many members of the House and Senate will be brand new. Additionally, all of the bills introduced during the previous two year that did not pass will be swept away to create a clean slate and a new opportunity for Congress to make a difference on issues of poverty. This is an important time to build your relationship with your elected officials. Congratulate them and let them know you look forward to working with them on the end of poverty during the coming congressional session. Use the November Action Sheet to write to your representative and senators today.

  • RESULTS Has Posted VolunteerMatch Ads for All RESULTS Groups! We have created VolunteerMatch ads in RESULTS communities all across the country to capture people with post-election, get-involved fever. These ads will lead potential volunteers to the Welcome Series which ultimately encourages them to join a New Advocate Orientation webinar. Interested and oriented people will then be referred to the appropriate Group Leaders thanks to our expansion staff. Groups could get referrals through December. Groups should be energized by the suspense of not knowing how many and who might be passed their way… like waiting for Christmas morning to arrive. It’s exciting! Please contact us if you have questions about the ad for your area or if you need support welcoming new interest.
