The Reach Act on Maternal/Child Health! Plus, August Action Sheet Coming SoonThis summer brought the introduction of S.1911, the Reach Every Mother and Child Act, which works for the end of preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths around the world. The bill text is online, and you can also track progress on cosponsorship. (We'll soon have a goal of how many cosponsors we'd like on the bill.) Also, watch for an August action sheet that will help you ask for cosponsorship of this bill. You all have done a magnificent job alerting the Senate to the bill while it was pending, and now it's here for support! Utilize the August recess – and this laser talk – to book face-to-face meetings while senators (and reps.) are back in-state and in-district. Ask for cosponsorship. Invite folks who are curious about your RESULTS work and care about maternal/child health to come along to any local meetings you book. State the case to Congress of why this legislation is smart, compassionate, and necessary. Fresh Media Toolkit: Put Pen to Paper in August for Maternal/Child Health (MCH)Ready to write an op-ed in support of the new Senate maternal/child health bill? Inspired to pitch the idea of an editorial to the local paper that hasn't yet written on this issue about which you're so passionate? Want to tell the story of what you learned and what you accomplished at the International Conference? Need to thank your representative for signing onto the House maternal/child health letter? Then utilize this brand new MCH media toolkit! Also, if you're on social media, keep track of hashtag #savemomsandkids for news of August events on Capitol Hill highlighting the national coalition (including RESULTS!) working on MCH. Watch for more news on Twitter (@RESULTS_Tweets) and on our Facebook page. Grassroots Grab Bag1. Our Blog is Blazin'. Ten Senators have sent a letter applauding the Obama Administration for taking the first steps toward an action plan on drug-resistant TB. Video highlights from the International Conference are now available. Tiny tots took to the Hill to advocate for saving moms and kids everywhere. RESULTS was recently highlighted by Global Citizen. Check it all out on our blog! 2. Your Input Sought. The 2016 RESULTS International Conference is tentatively slated for late June, so we're already just ten months away from the next installment of the greatest advocacy party of the year! Give us your input on the 2015 conference via our survey so we can make next year's version the best it can be. We are also taking nominations for an open grassroots board member seat opening this fall as Beth Wilson, one of our outstanding grassroots board members (who is eligible for re-nomination), finishes her term. Nominations of candidates for the open grassroots board member position must reach the RESULTS office by Tuesday, September 15. We are encouraging participation from across the breadth of our organization. Candidates for the grassroots board members must be engaged in an active RESULTS group. Candidates can be nominated by others or can nominate themselves. Please email your nomination to [email protected] or call (202) 783-4800 x152. 3. Reclaiming Our Democracy. At the International Conference, RESULTS founder Sam Daley-Harris ran out of copies of the 20th anniversary edition of Reclaiming Our Democracy and eventually ended up signing or sending 19 copies of the book. There are probably others who want a copy for themselves or for a friend during RESULTS' 35th anniversary year. If you would like one or more signed copies sent to you, mail a $25 check for each book payable to RESULTS Educational Fund (includes book, postage, and handling), along with your name and address to Sam and the name of whomever you want the book signed to, and Sam will sign and send you the book. Group Leader Training Registration OpenAre you a current or incoming RESULTS group leader for a global campaigns group? Then this opportunity is just for you! These training retreats, to be repeated several times over the next year and highlighting our global health campaign work and group leader best practices, will help both veteran and soon-to-be group leaders sharpen their skills, gain even more confidence in their leadership, and build relationships and rapport with fellow leaders.
