FY18 Appropriations

Engage: For decades, the U.S. has been a leader in fighting extreme poverty. And by working in partnership with developing nations, global poverty has been cut in half since 1990.

Problem: But we have more work to do since as 16,000 kids under age five are still dying of preventable causes each day, and 263 million children and youth who should be in school are not.

Inform About the Solution: By investing in effective and efficient development programs through the appropriations process, we can continue to make progress on poverty, and bolster country self-reliance.

Call to Action: Will the representative/senator please include the following amounts in his/her request to the Foreign Operations Subcommittee of Appropriations (choose the top one or two)?

• $900 million for Maternal and Child Health, including $290 million for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and an additional $250 million for Nutrition in Global Health.
• $450 million for bilateral Tuberculosis control efforts.
• $1.475 billion for the multilateral Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
• $125 million for the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) within Basic Education, and a total of $925 million for Basic Education.
