U.S. to host next pledging summit for Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
RESULTS celebrates Biden administration announcement, and ready to work for a bold, successful replenishment
Washington, DC, November 11, 2021 – Applauding the announcement that the United States will host the next replenishment conference for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Dr. Joanne Carter of RESULTS released the following statement:
We are enormously grateful for Secretary Blinken’s announcement that the U.S. will host the next Global Fund replenishment conference. There has long been deep, bipartisan U.S. support for the Global Fund, and now the Biden administration is positioned to expand the impact of that commitment even further in the wake of COVID-19.
With critical U.S. support, the Global Fund has been our best tool for pooling the world’s resources to fund high-impact, community-led work to end the epidemics of AIDS, TB and malaria. Bringing together local, national, and global partners – including working together with PEPFAR, PMI, and USAID’s TB program – has transformed the fight against these three diseases, cutting the number of deaths in half in countries where the Global Fund invests. Together this global partnership has saved 44 million lives in two decades.
The U.S. made an essential $3.5 billion investment in the Global Fund earlier this year that has supported countries to respond to the devastation from COVID-19. Now as replenishment host, the Biden administration can help rally dramatic new investment in the Global Fund to help end the pandemics of today and help stop the pandemics of the future.
Global Fund-supported partners in more than 100 countries are leading the fight against the greatest infectious killer diseases of our time, and building more effective and equitable health delivery systems that will be essential to facing future challenges. This replenishment is a chance to raise significant new global funding, increase our collective ambition, and put communities and health equity at the center of the fight against pandemics.
We are committed to working with the Administration, members of Congress, our grassroots network, and partners globally toward a bold replenishment that matches the scale of today’s challenges.
