RESULTS’ Cynthia Stancil honored for longtime commitment to public interest
Washington, DC, December 6, 2019 — Cynthia Stancil, Associate Director of Human Resources at RESULTS, will be recognized with the Phyllis McCarthy Public Interest Award, presented by Public Citizen, for her longtime service and commitment to the public interest.
The award is given annually to an unsung hero who makes a public interest organization’s work possible. Awardees demonstrate exceptional dedication to the institution’s mission and goals, working behind the scenes to help it grow and thrive. The award is named in honor of longtime Public Citizen staff member Phyllis McCarthy. Stancil and her co-winner will be honored at a reception today at Public Citizen’s headquarters.
“Asking ten different people about what Cynthia does at RESULTS, you’ll get ten different answers, and all of them will be true,” said Joanne Carter, Executive Director of RESULTS. “She is a true unsung hero in the fight against poverty, working to power a network of advocates in the United States and globally.”
Stancil has served RESULTS for over 12 years in wide range of roles, ranging from event management, fundraising, volunteer support, finance, and communications, to technology and operations. Today she manages human resources for the organization.
Before coming to RESULTS, Stancil spent the first half of her career working behind the scenes in a range of other roles. This includes more than a decade at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in DC, where she worked in human resources and operations, as well as assisting with finances. She also worked for five years with the National Marrow Donor Program.
“Cynthia has been an invaluable member of our staff and community,” said Carter. “As our movement of advocates gets published in the media, speaks to Congress, holds events, and travels around the world, Cynthia is working diligently, but without fanfare, to support all of it. It’s hard to imagine this organization without her integrity, commitment, no-nonsense efficiency, instinct, and incredible skill.”
