RESULTS calls on the U.S. government to urgently scale up humanitarian aid in response to Gaza ceasefire
The long-awaited ceasefire in Gaza must lead to a permanent end to the violence. The global community must rapidly ramp up lifesaving aid for those suffering and dying.
Washington, DC, January 22, 2025—RESULTS is heartened by the long-overdue ceasefire declaration in Gaza. Now, we must urgently scale-up humanitarian assistance and ensure the free flow of aid to address the multiple widespread crises. Immediate intervention is needed to save lives and counteract the destruction of infrastructure for health, education, and more.
“RESULTS is thankful for this ceasefire that has suspended further violence in Gaza, and allowed the release of more Israeli hostages. It must be made permanent,” said RESULTS Executive Director, Joanne Carter. “But this ceasefire is only the beginning of the work ahead for peace and stability. Hundreds of thousands of Gazans need emergency nutrition and medical care. They need basic services and shelter to begin to recover. The hostages, their families, and communities also need to recover and heal. RESULTS will urge Congress to pass a new package of humanitarian aid for Gaza. This package should also include aid for communities affected by the violence in Sudan. We call on partners and donors around the globe to scale up funding and resources for these efforts as quickly as possible.
This aid package should be a bipartisan priority and be part of the next available legislative vehicle. Over 46,000 people have been killed and hundreds of thousands face starvation and displacement in Gaza. The global community must deploy an influx of funding and services to prevent further tragedy.”
