RESULTS opposes the Trump Administration’s newest executive order suspending dispersal of federal funds to domestic programs. This action will harm communities and tramples congressional power and jurisdiction.

Washington, D.C., January 28, 2025—The latest in a string of executive orders from the new Trump Administration threatens to derail critical U.S. anti-poverty work. RESULTS warns that this will disrupt essential programs that fight poverty and even save lives. “Freezing federal grants directly harms people already trying to survive poverty and oppression. While details remain murky, we know that children and families may lose access to programs that support basic needs. People escaping domestic violence will have fewer or no options. Services for people surviving homelessness will disappear amidst deadly winter weather. Even emergency services may be unable to operate effectively. The ripple effects are enormous, as is the harm created,” said RESULTS Executive Director Joanne Carter.

Also concerning is how the order flouts the constitutional separation of powers. “Congress holds the power of the purse,” continued Carter. “As an organization that has worked with Congress for 45 years, we urge Members on both sides of the aisle to speak out against this callous and extreme action. We applaud the members of Congress who have raised immediate concern and urge other decision makers to do so as soon as possible. Nothing short of a full reversal of this order will mitigate the harm.”

RESULTS also recognizes that this executive order appears to target supports for specific groups. Previous orders have as well. “We stand with the members of our community who seem to be under threat from this executive order and others. These include LGBTQIAS+ people and anyone delivering or supported by Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work. Our RESULTS values are rooted in justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. We remain committed to our community and our values.”
