The Fight to Save Medicaid is Far from Over – Call Today!
On Tuesday, the Senate voted 51-50 to consider devastating health legislation. Fortunately, they have been unsuccessful in actually passing a bill, but later tonight or tomorrow they will try again. The latest version is the so-called “skinny repeal” – a scaled down repeal that still takes health insurance from 16 million Americans (CBO). At this point, Senate leadership simply wants to pass any bill so they can then negotiate a backroom deal with the House. The final result? A health bill that looks like the House’s American Health Care Act, which gives billions in tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations while forcing 23 million off their insurance and ending Medicaid as we know.
Therefore, it doesn’t matter what bill the Senate votes on – every version the propose will have a devastating impact on millions of Americans.
You can still make a difference! CALL BOTH YOUR SENATORS TODAY at (877) 233-9025 and say:
Senator __________ promised to protect health care for people in our state. Whether it’s a modified Senate bill or a “skinny repeal” bill, they ultimately lead to the same outcome – a backroom deal that guts Medicaid. Senator ________ should keep his/her promise to our state to protect Medicaid and reject all the health bills being voted on in the Senate.
Even if you’ve called recently, call again. We must make Senate phones must light up before they vote – which could be as soon as tonight. Share this alert with others you know and urge them to call too. Lives are at stake and we must do all we can to ensure health care for all Americans. Can’t get through on the phone? Consider calling their local offices, or send an email via our website.
