Onward
When congressional leaders took aim at the health care of millions of low-income Americans, you fought back. And tonight we can celebrate a victory that means — at least for now — Medicaid stays intact and health care for 24 million Americans is safe.
This afternoon, backers of the House health proposal conceded that they didn’t have the votes to get this damaging bill through Congress. You helped make this possible.
More than 40 face-to-face meetings with members of Congress and dozens more with congressional staff. Media in 40 states. Hundreds of phone calls, emails, and letters. All of your work so far this year helped stave off this attempt to gut health coverage for low-income Americans.
Let’s be clear: the threats we’re facing are far from over. But today is a reminder of what’s possible when we come together to defend what we believe in. We will not win every battle, but if there is one thing that gives me hope, it’s all of you.
There is a lot of work ahead, but for now let me just say thank you for everything you do.
