Standing with the World Health Organization
Washington, DC, May 29, 2020 – The White House announced its intention to sever ties with the World Health Organization in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Retreat on decades of bipartisan support for the WHO would hurt not only the world’s response to COVID-19, but ongoing global health challenges like tuberculosis, Ebola, and polio.
RESULTS Executive Director Dr. Joanne Carter said the following in response to the White House announcement:
Severing the relationship with the WHO during a pandemic is foolish and dangerous. This would undermine the world’s response to COVID-19, and fly in the face of decades of strong bipartisan support for global health. We stand with WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros in his call to work together as a global community against this pandemic, and members of Congress on both sides of the aisle should do the same.
