$302 million. That’s how much money was included in the spending bill, passed by Congress yesterday, for bilateral funding to combat tuberculosis (TB).

This is an increase of $41 million from last year, the largest single-year increase in funding for fighting TB globally in a decade. Your work to garner support during the appropriations process last year made this massive victory possible.

But this isn’t just about a number on a page – the $302 million in TB funding will have real world consequences. It means:

  • Better tools to reach the 4 million people who go undiagnosed with TB every year
  • Improved treatment for people who are actively sick with this airborne disease, stopping TB in its tracks
  • Fewer preventable deaths from this curable disease

In addition to the historic increase in TB funding, Congress approved increases in maternal and child health funding ($5.5 million increase), and nutrition funding ($20 million increase), and an increase to the U.S. contribution to the Global Partnership for Education ($2.5 million). All in all – that’s $69 million in additional investment in poverty-focused programs.

Thanks to the tireless support of RESULTS supporters, these increases will help more mothers have healthy pregnancies, safe deliveries and births, give children a healthy start, and combat malnutrition and stunting.

Have no doubt, your action – from in-person meetings, to calls and emails, to financial contributions – has helped drive millions of dollars to save lives and lift people out of poverty.

Millions of times over – thank you for making a difference!

Stay in action and up-to-date.
