Quick Action
Take Action: Reach Out to Congress About TB Appropriations
Post-Election Outreach: Nov. 6 Was Just the Beginning"Election day is just the beginning. As an advocate, you can help write the rest of the story."
November Action Sheet and Midterm Candidate Engagement Round-UpNovember Action Sheet for Outreach to New Congress. The November 2018 elections decided who works for you in Washington for the next two years as part of the 116th US Congress. There will be people returning to DC, but many members of the House and Senate will be brand new. Additionally, all of the bills introduced during the previous two year that did not pass will be swept away to create a clean slate and a new opportunity for Congress to make a difference on issues of poverty. This is an important time to build your relationship with your elected officials. Use the brand new November Action Sheet to write to your representative and senators. Congratulate them, welcome them, and let them know that you are looking forward to working with them in the coming new year. Let them know you are passionate about ending poverty and that you want to work with them to do that. Candidate Engagement. Thirty-seven participating advocates across our network. Fifty-nine engagements, including 51 with candidates and 22 with members of Congress. Your work to bring our campaigns to the process of the mid-terms means that candidates all across the country were compelled to hear about our anti-poverty work and to engage with their constituencies on their positions and potential for leadership on these issues. Such critical work . . . and it continues post-election, for now we move forward on working with those who will be representing us coast-to-coast. As we keep saying, Nov. 6 was just the beginning! Work Still to Do With the Current CongressTB Appropriations. Do you have 5 minutes? Use those minutes to reach out to Congress on TB via our online action. You could also take and share our online action which is a quick way to reach out to Congress on TB appropriations that can also be shared far and wide on your social media channels. Reach Every Mother and Child Act. As of November 13, there are 207 names on the House version of the bill and 49 on the Senate version. Can we reach 218 in House and 50 in the Senate? We are so close! Even as the year marches toward a close, we must continue to push this important legislation to the front, growing the list of cosponsors so that the call for support for this live-saving legislation is loud and clear now and for any future work we do on the issue. We are building the bench of support. Ask your senator(s) or representative to support maternal and child health by cosponsoring the Reach Act today.
