This is the Week to Push Sign-on Letters for AppropriationsIn addition to the specific appropriations requests you all worked hard to submit to your members of Congress, we have a final week to capitalize on an extra now a new layer of opportuniy: sign-on letters. A sign-on letter is circulated by members of Congress (like a petition) to get other members of Congress to sign on to show their support for an issue (also called a “Dear Colleague”). These letters can have a lot of sway with appropriators when a strong number of their colleagues are asking them to support a cause, especially if there is bipartisan support! We now have seven letters to appropriators now circulating in Congress (three in the Senate and four in the House) supporting our issues. Thanks to an updated blog post by Senior Policy Associate Crickett Nicovich, you can read about each letter (who is leading on the letter, what it's requesting, who has signed on already, and even the history of supporters on similar letters). The time to review the letters and act is now. Deadlines to keep in mind:
For complete information on appropriations sign-on letters and how to take action on them, check out our updated blog post by Senior Policy Associate Crickett Nicovich. And Don't Forget The Reach Act: One Goal Down. We'll Keep Going! We met our first goal early! 100 cosponsors on the House version of the Reach Act before March 31? No problem – you reached it!What does that mean? It means the legislation has real bipartican moment, and we must capitalize on it being keeping up the work of gathering cosponsors. Furthermore, we have generated over 200 pieces of media in 36 states on the Reach Act. We want to get media in all 50 states as soon as we can. Four big ways to advocate: 1. Book meetings with your legislators to discuss the Reach Act and make your requests. 2. Call your representative about the Reach Act. Ask Democrats to bring along a Republican colleague. 3. Or write your senators! Again, ask Democrats to bring along a Republican colleague. 4. Even write your local paper! Have you tweeted out your latest published piece? Fundraising Round-up: Huge Celebration! From Caitlin Van Orden, Director of Individual Giving: Last October, RESULTS reached out to our volunteers to help us meet our $100,000 grassroots fundraising target before the end of 2015. Your response was overwhelming and I am thrilled to report that together the Friends and Family campaigns and grassroots events you all held in November and December helped us BEAT our goal by raising $110,500!
