Follow-up From the Great Webinar Turnout with Nicholas KristofNicholas Kristof, New York Times columnist and co-author of A Path Appears, graciously spent about 45 minutes with a boatload of RESULTS listeners and advocates this past Saturday – a truly sweet Valentine's Day gift! – and both challenged and inspired us with his thoughts and comments. Did you miss the event, or would you like to share it with others? Check out the recording and transcript. Then don't forget to follow up with the guests who gathered with you for the webinar! Invite them to your next meeting, invite them to an upcoming RESULTS Introductory Call, invite them to take action, and/or invite them to the International Conference in July! You put in the work to gather guests; let them know there are great opportunities to come that will empower them to truly make a difference!
Advocacy 101 Tonight at 9 pm ET!The most effective strategy to influence policymakers is face-to-face visits between local constituents and members of Congress. The Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) asked congressional staff what kinds of contact make the biggest impact on members of Congress, especially when they have not made up their mind on an issue. Respondents overwhelmingly said that in-person visits from constituents made the biggest difference – 97 percent for visits to DC offices and 94 percent for visits to district offices – more influential than paid lobbyists! This training will overview the basics on how to secure an in-district lobby meeting and make sure the meeting is a success. To join online meeting: http://fuze.me/27334614. Encore presentation of this training: Wednesday, February 18 at 1 pm ET. |

Face-to-Face Meetings with Congress on Appropriations. February is the Golden Time to Act!Use the February Action Sheet to make your appropriations requests – if possible, face-to-face! Individual one-pagers on each of our requests are available as well, and the springtime will bring a few short recess opportunities during which these meetings could happen back in home states and districts. So now's the perfect time to book face-to-face meetings with the legislators. We know that the Appropriations Committee in the House will begin is work on requests on March 25, and the Senate will begin March 30. This means the time to get our requests to our individual members of Congress is right now. Check out some helpful hints on how to secure that face-to-face meeting you're looking for, or read up on some of the latest findings on how to most effectively message our appropriations requests, using language that will open up the conversation rather than unintentionally erect barriers. Find your legislators through our website, or contact Lisa Marchal, Senior Global Grassroots Associate, if you have questions on how to reach a new incoming legislator. If you'd like to talk about your particular member(s) of Congress, which appropriations requests might be most pertinent, and how to deal with the request form the office gives you. Contact Crickett Nicovich, Senior Policy Associate, to book at time either Feb. 18 (6-8 pm ET) or Feb. 19 (3-5 pm ET).

Quote of the Week“Let’s recognize that success in life is a reflection not only of enterprise and willpower but also of chance and early upbringing, and that compassion isn’t a sign of weakness but a mark of civilization.” ― Nicholas D. Kristof |
