RESULTS Weekly Update March 17, 2026

March 17, 2026

Quote of the Week

“Nationally, only 1 in 4 eligible families receives a housing choice voucher; the rest wait years for help that may never arrive. The solution exists. Vouchers have proven results: They reduce homelessness, improve children’s health and education, and lift families
out of poverty.”

– RESULTS Dallas advocate Bukekile Dubé, in a March 14 letter to the editor in the Dallas Morning News

Please submit your housing funding requests

Thank you for all your hard work to submit appropriation request forms to House members on our global poverty priorities (see below for more). But we are not done yet. To ensure Congress also prioritizes housing in the FY27 budget, we need ensure the fund the Housing Choice Voucher program. The House deadline to send requests to the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development subcommittee (or T-HUD) has been extended to March 27. If you have not done so already, please submit those forms to your House office(s) today. Remember, your representative’s deadline for request might be sooner than March 27, so submit them well ahead of the deadline. Find expert help on our website or via our next Appropriations Office Hour at 12 p.m. ET this Friday with RESULTS staffer Katie Fleischer.

Your lobby meetings are vital right now

We’re in an important spring lobby push. Why? Because in these lobby meetings, you have the opportunity to tell lawmakers why anti-poverty programs need their support. Submitting appropriations forms is an integral step in the budget process, but a form can’t provide context, conversation, or inspiration. Your meetings do that. Lobby meetings humanize these requests and increase the chance that lawmakers will support them. And now you have the opportunity to have these conversations with members themselves.

Congress’ has a two-week spring recess March 30 through April 10. Your representative(s) and senators will be spending time back in-district or in-state, and they may be able to meet with you face-to-face. But even if they are unavailable, you can schedule a meeting with local staff in an in-district office and ask relevant DC aides to join virtually.

We want to focus our current lobby efforts through the spring recess. After that, RESULTS will shift our primary focus to a spring media campaign. This campaign will start on the April 11 National Webinar. It will support and amplify the lobbying you accomplished. It will also create a “break” between the current lobby push and lobby meetings at the July RESULTS National Conference. Emphasize your political power! Deliver recently published media during those July meetings!

On our website, we have a collection of resources for every stage of your lobby meetings. We have materials that help support speaking with the scheduler, understanding our issues, making the ask and following up, and reporting on your successful meeting(s). Once a meeting is booked, please contact RESULTS’ Katie Fleischer to schedule a lobby prep meeting with RESULTS staff. Our complete 2026 Campaign page, “Build a Better Future,” provides resources as well.

House “Dear Colleague” letter success, and keep going!

Last Friday, the window to submit global health and education appropriations forms to House offices closed. Thank you so much for your hard work on those submissions. Four House “Dear Colleague” letters also closed last week. In the incredibly short time window we had, you worked diligently to ask your representatives to sign on, amplifying the congressional chorus supporting our global health and education issues. And just take a look at the number of signers you helped secure!

  • Letter on the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria: 171 signers
  • Letter on global tuberculosis: 133 signers
  • Letter on global maternal and child health: 118 signers
  • And letter on global education: 110

In less than two weeks, you got close to the signer numbers you achieved in 2025 with more time. And the Global Fund, maternal/child health, and education letters showed an even stronger bipartisan backing than last year. This very specific work contributes strongly to our multi-faceted overall efforts to make sure the right levels of funding for our issues show up in the fiscal year 2027 (FY27) budget. And, most importantly, those numbers translate into lives saved and lives enhanced. Senate letters will be out soon, and you can check to see if your representative(s) signed on our website (so you can send out thank yous)!
